1628 Artillery Diego Ufano GUNS Illustrated War Cannon Tactics French FOLIO One of the most famous books on the history of artillery! Diego Ufano was a 16th-century Spanish historian of military warfare and artillery. His most important contribution to the subject was his work 'Artillerie' which features details on 16th-century guns and ammunition. His notes and observations on gunmen were far beyond their time, not only that, they are incredibly informative to the styles of warfare tactics used centuries ago. This book provides step-by-step tutorials on how to clean, load, aim, and fire muzzle-loading firearms – all to the beat of a drummer's drumroll. It also describes how to move cannons up a mountain, manufacturing and building, and details on ammunition trajectory. It also includes use of cannons in the Philippines, China, and Tartary. This exquisite 1628 French edition is illustrated with utterly fascinating engravings of cannons and all its parts, cannon balls and ammunition, trebuchets, castles ... Read more

1696 Japanese Woodblock Chinese History Tsuzoku kanso gundan Qing Han War CHINA A 17th century Sino-Japanese woodblock print history of the Chu-Han Contention between the Qing and Han Dynasty bound in the fukurotoji style. The Tsuzoku kanso gundan is the tale of the conflict between the chu and han after the Qing Dynasty before Liu Bang united China in 202 BC as the emperor of the Han Dynasty. It was translated into Japanese and in turn helped shape Japanese literature away from the stylized Chinese verse of scholarly attention and began considering the more mundane, as literature as well. This was done by entertaining and educating the natives of Japan about the world, specifically China, who were banned from leaving the mainland during that time period. Pastreich writes, "Such Chinese historical novels may have appealed to Japanese readers because they covered the details of Chinese history in a lively and accessible manner, going beyond the digested and sanitized description of history to the messy detail ... Eternal life and happiness?" – James Ussher, Body of Divinity James Ussher was an early 17th-century Archbishop in the Church of Ireland who is most remembered for giving an exact date to the beginning of creation. His full body of work includes letters, sermons, dissertations, and exegeticals, but this work focuses solely on improving the Christians life and strengthening their faith. Ussher's most important and impactful work was 'Britannicarum Ecclesiarum Antiquitates' – a work of the history of the church in Great Britain.
