There is a gift inscription and date (1918) on a front end paper; otherwise it is unmarked. It is basically clean (small red stain at the top edge of the rear board), tight and square with good. There's light bumping/rubbing at the edges, noticeable at the ends of the spine. There are red titles on the front and spine. The boards are bright, particularly the picture on the front of the girls on horseback. It is illustrated with black & white drawings. It has very nice pictorial end papers and 296 pages plus ads.

The front joints are split, but held tightly in place by the binding cords. They are lightly rubbed. They have marbled end papers and 434 & 414, clear, mildly toned/foxed pages with marbled edges bound in brown, marbled, leather boards with gilt tooled around the boards and on the spine. The titles on the spine are gilt on brown & black leather. The brown titles is off on volume I.

They are lightly bumped/rubbed, volume II a bit more so. This cbook was stored with another book on top of it protecting most of it from soil, but there is an inch or so of light soil across the top and edge of the front board framing the title. There is a gift inscription and date (1903) on a rear free end paper. A postcard with a color picture of the Gossport Church Star Island is tipped in inside the front board with the caption: "Originally constructed of timbers from the wreck of a Spanish ship A.D. 1685. Was rebuilt in 1720 and burned by the islanders in 1790. This building of stone was erected A.D. 1800".
