Defective copy of this rare emblem book, sold as is. Part one only, without the Enchiridion de Epicteto Gentil, with evidence of an interesting cancellation on page 81 (leaf L1) featuring two letterpress slips: at the top the headline, page number, and title of the engraving; at the bottom five lines of verse, signature mark, and catchword; two separate slips of paper and pasted onto the sheet, with the engraving printed over the cancel slip at the top. Bound in handsome 20th century full Spanish calf. Leaves with scattered staining, tears, and occasional losses throughout. Sold as a collection of emblems.

Limited edition, one of 20 hors commerce copies specially bound, with subscriber's name printed on the limitation page, and with an autograph leaf bound in. Spine a little sunned and scuffed; original wraps slightly age-toned. Nice.

Limited Edition, one of 30 hors commerce copies with the subscriber's name (Lucien Henaux) printed on the limitation page, and inscribed by Valery to Elizabeth Heunaux on the front flyleaf. Boards and spine just a little rubbed and dust-soiled; some faint foxing throughout. A lovely copy.

Waltman Jr., Delft, Netherlands. 68pp. plus covers, 6.25 x 9.5”, stiff wrappers with 44pp. in Dutch text and illustrated with 21 black and white plates (one per page on different stock) from modern artists including: Henri Matisse, Jan Toorop, Bart van der Leck, Wassily Kandinsky, Marc Chagall, Gino Severini, Theo van Doesburg, Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Alexander Archipenko, Vilmos Huszár and others. An early, seminal text on modern art and the new movement in painting by the pioneering Dutch artist and De Stijl co-founder, Theo van Doesburg. The text was slightly modified from its’ original published in 1916 in the journal “De Beweging” (Movement). A very good copy of a fragile book with moderate soiling and handling to the covers and light foxing throughout with a slight bend/bump to the bottom corner pages. Binding still strong and illustrated plates clean and intact.

Contemporary vellum over boards; 4to (260x192mm); pp. [10], 685, plus folding copper-engraved plates numbered I-XXVIII and a folding table. Vellum a little soiled and rubbed; tail of spine perished, and vellum torn along bottom edge of boards. Early ownership signature neatly excised from bottom margin of title-p.; some marginal foxing, affecting some of the plates, but contents are overall nice and clean. Only plate XXIII is significantly soiled. Includes an early map of California, depicting it as an island.

Glossy illustrated paper over boards, backed in bright green cloth; square 8vo; unpaginated (approx. pp. 120), with watercolor illustrations beautifully reproduced in full-color throughout. Numerous recipes placing vegetables front and center, delicious enough to entice the most finicky kid. Includes dishes for all four seasons, as sides or main courses, as well as little poems featuring anthropomorphic veggies. Unique, and good fun.

Covers detached, very brittle, and off-set onto illustrated first and last leaves of the text block; the occasional tiny chip or closed tear along edges of text block (in this cataloguer's opinion, inoffensive, and in no way detracting from the appeal of the illustrations or text). Dust jacket split along spine; very faintly soiled; and lightly chipped and torn along the edges; but colors remain bright, so it presents nicely in mylar. Sold as is. A very pretty, and very scarce, volume, showing a variety of folk toys, alongside verses by numerous contributors. OCLC locates 2 copies.
