Bibliothèque de la Pléiad. 1807 pp. Flexible brown leather with gilt stamped spine; rose topstain, two yellow nylon ribbon markers sewn in. The volume has very light edge wear, a stamped ownership design and name on the front pastedow under neath the jacket flap, and there are a series of bottom corner edges with creasesd corners. The dust jacket is edge rubbed with shallow chips, creases, and wrinkles. Text is in French.

Grosset & Dunlap, ca. 1929 (photoplay edition). First Edition. Hardcover. Good. First photoplay edition from the 1929 film, illustrated with 4 reproduced stills from that film. The volume is edge rubbed with bumped spine ends; the spine is mildly sunned, has vertical creases, and there is a tidemark on the bottom fore-edges. The binding is still reasonably tight, although the text leaves are lightly age toned.

Alfred A. Knopf, 1920. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good -. First printing of this revised edition. 16 full page black and white illustrations. The volume is lightly bumped on the spine ends and corners, and there is a bookplate on the front pastedown. The dust jacket, protected in a sleeve has the price on the front flap but is clipped on the top corner of the rear flap (?). The jacket has shallow chips, closed tears, and is sunned on the spin turning the yellow to a light cream.

Dood, Mead and Company, 1910. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Frontispiece and five additional inserted plates on coated paper by Arthur William Brown. Publisher's full mauve cloth; spine lettered in cream; front stamped in brown with illustrated paper label. Original illustrated jacket. The volume is bumped on the spine ends and the leaves are lightly aged. The sleeve protected dust jacket is edge worn with chips (to a depth of 3/8"), a few closed tears (longest is 1/2"), some associated creasing, and occasional soiling.

Bobbs-Merrill Company, 1907. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. Published "March", 1907 on copyright page and then the demons take over. This copy does not have the colored illustration pasted onto the front panel. The cloth is beige instead of green and the spine lettering is black instead of gilt. The dust jacket illustration has no color. There are no illustrations (just the frontispiece from p. 54) in the book, even though the title page states "With Illustrations by Orson Lowell". Variant? Later printing? Pirate (if so, who and pointedly, why)? Anyway, the volume is lightly bumped on the spine ends and the text leaves are gently toned. The Bobbs-Merrill, sleeve protected, dust jacket is clipped on all corners (no price present), has edge wear to include closed tears and chips, including a sizable 7/8" x 1 1/4" chunk on the ntop of the nrear panel, and is wrapped a bit off center.

Publisher's full teal cloth; front and spine lettered in cream; front with stamped decorative border in darker teal. Original dust jacket printed in gilt, black and red on teal paper. The volume is bumped with light abrasions on the spine ends, the text leaves have mild toning and occasional soiling, and there is an ownership name on the front endpaper. The sleeved dust jacket is edge rubbed with corner and spine ends chips (to a depth of 1/4" at the top of the front fold) and there is one short closed tear. The spine and perimeters are mildly sunned.

The text leaves of the volume were bound in somewhat askewed (the top left side of the front pastedown is 1/8" below the upper edge of the board and the top right side of the rear pastedown is 3/16" below the upper edge of the board) and the spine ends are lightly bumped. The unclipped dust jacket, sleeve protected, has wear around the spine ends. Illustrated throughout with reproduced photographs.

The volume is frayed on the spine ends, has areas of discolortion and spotting, and the gilt lettering is difficult to read. The text is overopened at the title page, one section of illustrations is loose and laid in between pp 108-109, and the text leaves are lightly toned.

The volume is edge rubbed with the boards exposed on the top front corner. The pages have very light toning.

Contemporary half leather and marbled boards; gilt titles, 5 raised bands; all edges gilt. The edges are lightly rubbed and there is some spotting to the spines (especially to volume II). There is light toning to the pages and it appears that one illustration in each volume had been loose and then reinserted because, even though now secure, the edges protrude slightly.

R. F. Fenno & Compan, New Yorky, 1895. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Variant binding? Light green cloth stamped in gilt and green, with pale red borders. 75 full page illustrations and accuracy was not an issue in this binding as the list of illustrations calls for 74. Additionally, some precede the page listed, some follow the listed page, a few are a full leaf past the listed page and 1 or 2 are two full leaves past. In one instance there are two different illustrations back to back, but the listing only mentions one. The volume is The volume is lightly edge rubbed, has some soiling, is spine toned, and the gilt is fading. Both hinges are cracked, exposing the webbing, and there is an occasional chip and tear to the lightly toned leaves.

E. P. Dutton & Co, 1952. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Very Good -. Signed. SIGNED, without inscription, by Gore Vidal on the title page. The volume is shelf worn, has a crease the length of the spine, and an abraded area on the spine tail. Both pastedowns have two abraded areas near the hinge and there is a small booksellers label on the front end paper. The dust jacket, clipped on all corners (price of $2.50 is intact)is edge rubbed (to include the folds and joints), chipped at the corners and spine ends (to a depth of 1/4" on the top front joint), and has a few short closed tears and some edge wrinkling. The book and jacket are married.
