Lightly browned to edges, a few light spots of foxing and browning, but generally quite clean. The coronation of George V and Queen Mary. S.[arah] Burgess specialised in the printing of these commemorative tissues, generally the decorative borders were printed in Japan, with the overprinting which was "commonly primitive .. and display a ... disregard for niceties of typography and spelling" (Rickards, page 221) done locally. Spine slightly faded, lightly browned throughout, occasional light foxing, very occasionally heavier (ie. the final plate), occasional creasing, tear to top margin of Rr1, Tt2 and Tt3 loose but present. Slightly later ownership inscription of a Sarah Pope to head of title. With six engraved plates as called for. The first three years, all probably published in the preceding year - 1866, [1], 2-82pp, [14]p adverts; 1867, [3], 2-80pp, [14]p adverts and 1868, [1], 2-82pp, [14]p adverts. Original paper covers, general minor rubbing, creasing, chipping and staining, all lightly foxed and browned internally, the first and third mentioned with heavier foxing, small amount of loss to lower cover of the first mentioned, lower cover and back strip of the second mentioned defective with some loss. The first three years of this white supremacist almanac, published shortly after the end of the American Civil War by John H. Van Evrie, who was described by the historian George M. Fredrickson as "perhaps the first professional racist in American history" (quoted in Wikipedia), here fulminating against Lincoln, the 13th Amendment and any idea of black emancipation. Peter Frederick Strawson (1919-2006) was an important and influential philosopher of the late twentieth century. [9], x-xi, [6], 2-350pp, [2], slightly later, full straight grain morocco, raised bands, spine in six panels, title lettered direct to second panel, with illustrator to third, each with volute corner pieces, remaining panels with central floral spray, volute and flower head corner pieces and small roundels and stars, date to foot, all in gilt, covers with gilt triple border, double line gilt roll to edges, inner edges with varying gilt rolls, a.e.g., plain endpapers. Outer joints slightly chipped with small amounts of surface loss, joints still holding well, slightly rubbed to extremities. Slightly later half-vellum and marbled paper over boards, smooth back, leather title label to spine, t.e.g. Vellum rubbed, especially to spine and front cover, small split to upper joint at head with a tiny split to lower joint at head but holding well, rubbed to extremities, board edges lightly bumped, light scratching to marbled paper covering boards with small amount of loss. Internally lightly browned, one or two spots of foxing, but generally quite clean and bright. Gift inscription to ffep to an Arthur Pomeroy from a Dr Steele. The attractive hand-coloured plates to rear, binding is by F. Cavenagh of Dublin (See Ramsden, page 230, though spelled differently and at a slightly different address, almost certainly the same binder). Moss II:724 (quoting a review from the Monthly Review). Lightly browned and soiled, central crease from fold, chipped to edges, loss to bottom right hand corner, not affecting text, red ink staining to reverse, but without bleed through. A key with description, to the picture painted by William Marshall Craig, and Orme's engraving of it, of the death of Nelson aboard the 'Victory'; 2.
