New York: MacMillan & Co, 1893. First Edition. Very good with light wear to the covers, which remain bright.. Bears the signature and bookplate of Eugene Field. However, as with many books bearing Field's signature, same could be that of Eugene Field's son, Eugene Field Jr., who worked with accomplice Harry Dayton Sickles in "enlarging" his father's library, adding provenance by forging his father's signature. Field Jr. was never charged, and his forgeries are now collectible in their own right.

Scarce salesman's sample/dummy, consisting of three pages of notices, title page, preliminaries, sample pages and illustrations of various paginations, followed by one page of publisher's description and six unnumbered, ruled pages for recording subscribers' names. Sample backstrip mounted inside front cover.

London: Printed at Strawberry-Hill, 1758. Very good with scattered minor spotting, contemporary calf, rebacked, minor bumping to corners and extremities.. First edition from the famed press set up at Strawberry Hill, Horace Walpole's London villa. According to Walpole's introductory advertisement, "Lord Whitworth's little treatise will throw considerable lights upon the formation of the Muscovite power, and upon the plans of the extraordinary genius, Peter the Great." This work was often used as evidence of the state of contemporary Russia and was "essentially an appraisal of Russia's growing military, particularly naval, strength, [and] a positive assessment of Peter [the Great]" Cross, Peter the Great through British Eyes (2000, pgs. 45, 76). 8vo. xxiv, 158pp., [1]. Now housed in a custom chemise and green morocco-backed slipcase.. First Edition. With crest on wrapper, title page, and with woodcut on the last page. Wilde's first book. Wilde's poem was the Newdigate Prize winner for 1878, presented at Oxford University for best poetry. "During a vacation ramble in 1877 [Wilde] started from Greece, [and] visiting Ravenna by chance on the way, he obtained material for a poem on that ancient city, and singularly enough, Ravenna was afterwards given out as the topic for the Newdigate competition." (Hamilton, The Aesthetic Movement in England, as quoted by Mason, pg. 243). 8vo. 16pp. Mason, pg. 241.

A good plus copy in contemporary leather which is rather heavily worn and chipping, excised signature on front free endpaper, staining/browning to some pages, but overall a tight clean copy.. The journals of an early abolitionist, Woolman's journals have been among the only continuously published works in North America since the American Revolution. Charles Lamb says "Get the writings of John Woolman by heart." DNB. 8vo. xvi, 319pp., [1]. Each part has its own titlepage; two volumes in one as originally issued with continuous pagination.
