The 1954 Trussed Concrete Travelling Scholarship winners' account of their interview with Professor Nervi in Rome and visits to several of his notable buildings. Of interest to students of the architectural use of concrete. We have recently acquired the library of Harry Horlock Stringer who was a leading British potter at the old Fulham Pottery in the 1950's where he concentrated on earthenware. Later he moved to Taggs Yard in Barnes, south west London, where he built and ran his own school, welcoming pupils and making friends such as Ginger Rogers from across the world at a time when studio pottery was enjoying newfound popularity. Very Good. 1953 Everest mountaineer George Band's own copy, near very good in green cloth with gilt titles, one corner bruised, short tear to the cloth at the head of the spine, foxing to the extremities and paper stock browned. From the collection of English mountaineer George Band, the youngest member of the team which successfully conquered Mount Everest in 1953. Band was President of the Mountaineering Club at Queen's College, Cambridge and his exceptional Alpine record caught the eye of John Hunt, who put him in charge of radio equipment on the expedition. Band's finest achievement was the first ascent of Kangchenjunga in 1955. He pursued a professional career in oil exploration but continued to climb and published several books on mountaineering. Signed to front free end paper 'J H Wilson, Jesus, Oxon'; a previous owner's signature has been crossed out. A very well-read copy with underlining, doodles and annotations throughout, especially to the end papers where significant dates in English mediaeval history have been noted. This book comes from the private collection of British Prime Minister Harold Wilson and his wife Mary who died recently at the age of 102. During his lifetime Harold Wilson kept the book in the Ashley Gardens mansion flat in Westminster that the couple shared until his death in 1995. After she lost her husband Mary Wilson continued to live in the couple's flat, surrounded by a lifetime's accumulation of books and memories until 2016. Good 1926

Contains a large coloured map of Yorkshire consisting of 24 panels on linen based on Bartholomew of Edinburgh and revised according to the latest Ordnance Survey. The map is undated but it includes an index and gazetteer with population figures taken from the last census of 1901. In near fine condition with no loss at the folds, small crease to one corner. This is the one shilling and sixpence edition which includes the coloured fold out geological section of the Clifton Rocks on the north side of the River Avon from Sea Mills to the Hotwells. In publisher's blue cloth with embossed decoration and gilt titles. The booklet contains 2 accomplished etchings showing the exterior and interior of The Pump Room. Very good plus, the cloth is rubbed and lightly soiled to the lower cover, the gutters have been strengthened neatly with yellow tape to match the end papers; monogram of TC. The text and section are near fine, clean and undamaged. A very pleasing copy of this uncommon imprint. Very Good 1853

This book comes from the Franklin Delano Roosevelt collection of Frederick Baldwin Adams Jr, 1910 - 2001, the son of Ellen Walters Delano who was a first cousin to President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Adams became a passionate bibliophile who served as director of the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City for two decades and compiled a significant personal collection relating to F.D.R.. In 1969 he married his third wife who was a Swedish princess and with whom he shared the final years of his life in France. Adams' move to France explains the presence of his books in the United Kingdom. Near Fine 1936
