Photos taken by Clyde Waddell, "who was Chief Photographer for the Houston Press before entering the army, was flown to the India-Burma Theater in November 1943...". Waddell acted as personal press photographer for Supreme Commander Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten from 1943-1945. After that assignment, he resumed his work as a news photographer. The images for this book were captured by Waddell during his leave, "primarily at the behest of many friends who had been constantly asking him for photos of Calcutta scenes."
