James Whitcomb Riley was known as the Hoosier poet, and wrote sentimental and humorous verse representative of the time; illustrated by famed illustrator Howard Chandler Christy, famous for his "Christy girls", similar to the Gibson girl developed by Charles Dana Gibson.
