This volume, the 2nd of two, carries Lincoln from the early days of the Civil War through his assassination. Amazing condition for a book over a hundred years old--gilt type is bright and shiny on dark blue cloth. Also gilt edging on the top of the pages. Previous owner (D.B. Cheney) signed with date 1895.

New York: Farrar & Rinehart, 1936. First edition. Hardcover rebound by library in blue cloth.. Very Good. The author of the famous SPoon River Anthology (poems) decribes his life in Illinois, influences and struggles. Masters seldome met a woman he did nto fall for and his account of these romances is part of the charm of the book, as is his descriptions of farm, village, and city life from the last days of the 19th century through the 1920s and into the start of the depression. As csn be expected from a poet, there are some fine descriptins, especially of the people he meets. Masters was friends with many of the authors of the period, such as Theodore Dreiser. Although ex-library and rebound, the book itself is in excellent contidtion. There are several light stamps from the Pana (Illinois) libary on the edges of the pages and the title page. In the rebinding, the front and back forms have their margins squeezed. There are eleven excellent photographs of the author, his family, early homes, etc.

London: Methuen, 1960. First edition thus. Hardcover. Very Good/very good. This is a new edition of Leakey's 1934 book. Some penciled underlining on the pages and a few marginal notes (ink). Previous owner's stamp on the front endpaper. Minor wear on DJ

New York: The Republican Club of the CIty of New York, 1909. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Addresses at the annual LIncoln Dinners, includeing among other speakers Robert Ingersoll, John P. Newman, Charles E. Hughes, and Booker T. Washington. AN appendix include remarks by ex-presidents Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, and Theodore Roosevelt. Note on copyright page says "This Edition is limited to five hundred copies, of which this copy is Number . . . . . " but the number is not filled in.

One of several books about English birds by the author of the novel "Green Mansions." This copy is ex-library, but with only fairly inconspicuous library markings--a very good reading copy, well bound and no pages damaged. The first printing was 1913 in England and there also was a previous American edition from 1915.

There are many editions, including facsimile editions like this one, that have been published through the years since Lewis Carroll wrote my favorite children's classic, but all of them feel like the right version of Alice, with the right typefaces and the Tenniel illustrations. This is a fairly ordinary copy in good shape (a small tear on one of the middle pages). It is more for the nostalgic reader than the book collector.

PReceeded in 1847 by A Brief Compend of American Algriculture. Ex school library accoring to handwritten note on front endpage. Blind-stamped cover with somewhat faded gilt lettering and vingnette on spine. Pages are all foxed but clearly readable. There has been some folding of the edg of pages, especially near the front and the binding is slightly loose at the front, although all pages still attached. Some damage to frontispiece.

Although quite foxed throughout, much of the gold on the cover is still readable. No signs of problems with the binding. For 1849, this is in pretty good shape. The front [blank] endpaper is lost, but otherwise completely intact
