The Aharonov-Bohm effect is the quantum mechanical phenomenon that allows a charged particle to be affected by an electromagnetic field that does not exist in the vicinity of the particle, one of the stranger manifestations of quantum mechanics. This set contains the paper that predicted and described this phenomenon (first paper, 1959) and the paper that described the verification of the Aharonov-Bohm effect through the use of electron holography (second paper, 1982). 485-764, 1443-1506 pp. 4to. Green paper wraps that are clean and crisp. First volume has a red ink library stamp on the cover. Housed in a custom black cloth folio with gold embossed tilting to spine.

In this 1819 paper Irving Langmuir (1881-1957) proposed a set of eleven postulates describing the arrangement of electrons in shells and layers, and used the postulates to derive the properties of the chemical elements. In the same paper he also coined the term "covalence." Langmuir was awarded the 1932 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for "for his discoveries and investigations in surface chemistry.".
