Publisher's illustrated brown wrappers, octavo, pp. 16. Previous ownership name and contemporary date on front panel. Upper corner of front panel is torn off but present. A steadier hand than ours could mend it easily with tape if desired. Collectors and scholars of this type of material will be aware that the wrappers are of a poor quality paper and therefore a fragile affair. This copy with edge nicks and short tears, as expected. Old tide lines lower gutter throughout. Ensconced now in a clear new display sleeve with white card stock backing board.

Publisher's stapled printed light brown wrappers (detached but present), octavo, pp. [31]. Illustrated with 30 full-page captioned black and white photographs of dead or wounded soldiers from World War I battlefields. Graphic and poignant. Some photos identified as U. S. Signal Corps. Wrappers detached from text block, soiled with shelf rubbing, and chipped along edges. Protected now in a clear display sleeve with white card-stock backing board.

Nineteenth-century woman-owned "business" in Maine. Removed from a bound volume, octavo, pp. 2, [2]. "AN ACT granting Susan S. B. Spring the right to maintain a dam at its present height at or near the lower narrows, so called, at West Harpswell, in the town of Harpswell, for the purpose of retaining so much of the tide water as is necessary for the culture of fish." Two stab holes from binding near spine. A short tear throughout at mid fore-edge with no loss. Otherwise, just light wear and toning. Withal, about GOOD and ensconced now in a clear protective display sleeve with white cardstock backing board.

Flexible paper-covered boards with paper spine label affixed to a linen back-strip, octavo, pp. 56, 107. Boards and label with shelf rubbing and soiling. Random foxing. Some pages toned heavily to the shade of brown commonly seen in these publications. Parrish and Willingham, 4390, 4391. Please note that P & W 4390 was bound WITHOUT the final page of the index (i.e., wanting page 57).

Very Good with just light shelf wear. See MacLean, Gene Stratton-Porter: A Book Collector's Guide (1995), item 9(d) for limitation statement: "500 copies printed."

Publisher's brown cloth over blue boards with paper label affixed to upper board, 12mo (7 1/4 inches in height x 4 3/4 inches in width), pp. 265. Warm year of publication gift inscription on free front endpaper from the author to previous owner. A bit of scuffing and rubbing at spine ends and on paper spine label. Small spot of discoloration on front panel near bottom edge. Upper board fore-edge protrudes slightly farther than lower board fore-edge, as in an overbite. GOOD and sound, withal. Author was the last surviving daughter of Union Civil War General Charles J. Paine. An uncommon title institutionally, with an April 2023 OCLC search returning Boston Athenaeum; Massachusetts Historical Society; New Bedford Whaling Museum; and New England Historic Genealogy Society only.

Gray cloth with blue spine and upper board lettering, octavo, pp. vii, 171 plus publisher's ads. Previous owner name on front pastedown under dust jacket flap. Light page toning over the century. GOOD and sound. FAIR printed gray dust jacket with chipping and short tears at spine ends, flap fold tips, and around perimeter. Loss of paper at spine crown (see image). Jacket stowed safely now in removable archival Brodart.

Brown cloth, octavo, ruled in blind, spine lettering gilt. Black and white illustrations. Smith and Reid Book Binders of Augusta Maine stamp on free front endpaper near bottom edge. Contains Agricultural Report; Dairy Report; Practical Road Improvement; Chemistry of Meats; Experiments with Milch Cows; Orchard Report; Notes on Insects; Notes on Winter Gardening; Pomological Report; more. GOOD with some shelf scuffing and rubbing to the cloth. A few shallow old tide lines (a splash of coffee?) at bottom edge of rear free endpaper and rear pastedown.

Publisher's maroon cloth with decorative spine and upper board lettering, octavo, pp. 320. Old Atlanta book store ticket at bottom of rear paste-down. Shelf and handling wear. Page edges faded and discolored over the decades. FAIR-only color-illustrated dust jacket a bit weary from pre-mylar life, with tears and rubs. Loss of paper at crown area of spine and top edge of rear panel. Jacket protected now from further wear by a new sheet of archival Brodart. A rumination on this book: The lightness of the book and the fact that there is no price on the dust jacket make us wonder if it is a Book of the Month Club copy. However, the war-time publishing year, the absence of a publisher's blind stamp on the rear board, and the presence of the Atlanta retail store sticker on rear paste down make us think it is not a Book Club. Therefore, we'll settle on "possible" Book Club.

Publisher's dark green cloth, octavo, pp. 566. The statistics pages are a bit of a dry read, but there is plentiful good biographical and genealogical information regarding Legislators. Editor Owen (1869-1958) was Director of the state of Alabama's Department of Archives and History, as well as the aunt of actress Tallulah Bankhead. She was inducted into the Alabama Women's Hall of Fame in 1975. Owen has signed the book with her compliments, perhaps in haste, as the inscription is upside down and on the rear free endpaper. Board tips and spine ends of the book are shelf worn. Title lettering has faded away with the decades. Random spots on the binding and on the page edges. Small white sticker on free front endpaper. Internally clean and unmarked.

First University of Georgia (Brown Thrasher) edition, reprinted from the 1910 Savannah edition that was limited to 131 copies (see De Renne III: 1091), now in brown cloth with gilt spine and upper board lettering, octavo, pp. 387. Black and white frontis and portraits; endpaper Genealogical Tables.

Publisher's original blue cloth over boards, octavo, pp. 213 + [5]. Illustrations by Erick Berry et al. A thoroughly read copy with spine ends and board tips rubbed through and some smudging on preliminary and terminal pages. Previous owner's initials in ink at top of free front endpaper. That being said, the book is clean and largely free of foxing internally.

An Ex-Library copy in publisher's gilt-lettered black cloth over blue boards, octavo, pp. xiv, 247. Two sections of black and white illustrations. Includes a section for each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Library stamps in several locations. Free front endpaper has been removed. Best thought of as a Reference or Reading copy.
