In the Presidential elections of the Mexican Republic in 1829, Manuel Gómez Pedraza emerged victorious to succeed General Guadalupe Victoria, however, the Congress voided the election, and Generals Antonio de Santa Anna, Lorenzo de Zavala, and José María Lobato, did not allow Pedraza to take possession. In 1832 Santa-Anna changed his mind and decided to return the presidency to Gómez Pedraza, he held the presidency for only 3 months, and on March 1, 1833, Antonio López de Santa Anna was elected president, this was the first of half a dozen times in which he was president.
