The original photograph and the illustrations in the catalogue detail such Marcasite jewelry as men’s sterling cravats, cuff links, Masonic and other fraternal order emblems, earrings, bracelets, brooches, rings, and crosses. The Baldwin-Felts Detective Agency was created in the 1890’s by William Gibboney Baldwin as the Virginia & West Virginia Railroad Detectives, later changed to Iron & Coal Police of West Virginia, and in 1910 finally changed to Baldwin-Felts Detectives when Thomas Lee Felts became partner. This book is a history of the Agency who figured significantly in the 1906 Brownsville Raid, the 1912 Hillsville tragedy, the 1913 Colorado Coal Strike, and the 1920 Matewan massacre, along with the Hatfield & McCoys feud, and chasing down moonshiners.
