Meerut: Royal Irish Fusiliers Printed, single-sided broadside with a poem within a decorative frame, no date, but probably relatively contemporaneous with the battle. Slightly chipped to edges, lightly browned, lightly creased from old folds, small hole to centre just catching a letter but with no loss of sense, generally fairly bright. A poem about the capture of the Napoleonic Eagle at the battle of Barrosa, on the 5th March 1811, and printed at their own press in Meerut. Uncommon, not found in COPAC. First Edition. Unbound. Also details of court procedure and legal representation", this is a poster for a benefit concert to raise funds for the group. Liverpool: Big Flame Single-sided poster, approximately 380mm x 500mm, n.d. circa 1979? Slightly browned, chipped to bottom edge with small amounts of loss to border and bottom corners, with light creasing from old folds, but generally in good order, with attractive bold graphics. Big Flame was a socialist group (1970-1984) largely based on Merseyside, but with other regional groups. The name was taken from a television play written by Jim Allen and directed by Ken Loach. Though quite a small group it produced a newspaper and a wide range of pamphlets and other ephemera. First Edition. Unbound. Good. Elephant Folio. Poster.

Senegal: No Publisher, 1813. Double sided manuscript receipt, approximately 260mm x 130mm in size. Lightly browned, slightly creased, a few small chips and tears, but generally complete and fairly clean. Dated 23rd January, 1813 and issued in Senegal, this is a bill of exchange on Greenwood Cox & Co. (the army agents), for the sum of one hundred pounds sterling, to reimburse the local agent paying wages to the soldiers of the Royal African Corps in Senegal. The reverse has a certification of the current rate of exchange by the 'principal inhabitants and merchants of Senegal'. The Royal African Corps was established in 1804, originally raised as the Goree Corps in 1800, to defend the Island of Goree in Senegal. It was composed primarily of prisoners, deserters and condemned men from the hulks. First Edition. Unbound. Good. 24mo (Oblong). Receipt / Invoice.

Glasgow: Commonwealth Office, 1859. 16pp, bound in later half-morocco and marbled paper over boards, gilt title to spine. Spine faded, slightly rubbed to extremities, text a little grubby, title more so. Also bound in are a 4pp 'Autograph Poem of Robert Burns', published by Kerr and Richardson, Glasgow (late 19th C?), and two articles on Burns from the Edinburgh Review of 1809 and 1828. Seidman notes that "Chapter 12 (pp. 296-326), devoted to the rise and progress of American Bolshevism, lists socialists, pacifists, labor sympathizers, liberal intellectuals, anarchists, and the IWW as potential Bolsheviks here. Collection of seven provincially printed broadsides relating to the Crimean war, all printed in 1854 or 1855, the smallest measuring approximately 170mm x 370mm in size and the rest approximately 245mm x 370mm. All lightly browned, some light foxing and light creasing, a few small nicks and tears, one 'News From Sebastopol!' with small chip to left hand margin and small hole to centre catching a few letters but with no loss of sense, 'Statistics and Statements' with loss to bottom right hand corner, but no loss of text, 'Bombardment of Sebastopol' is laid on to linen. 'Bombardment of Sebastopol' was printed by T. & W. Plant in Clare Street, Nottingham, possibly descendants of James Plant (see BBTI); the remainder were printed by Thomas Stevenson in Wheeler-Gate, probably the same printer as the Thomas Stevenson & Co. located in Middle Pavement Nottingham in 1847 (see BBTI).
