Single sheet (205 x 185 mm), printed recto only, with vignette photographic portraits of Harcourt Algeranoff (1903-1967), Claudie Algeranova (1924- ) and Ronald Reay; autographed by each of the three dancers in black crayon; original vertical fold, in very good condition. In 1954-55 Joan and Betty Rayner's Melbourne-based non-profit travelling theatre toured ""Stories in Dance"" around Australia, visiting many regional and outback centres with the intention of bringing classical ballet to young Australians who may never have had the chance to see a live performance before. The performing troupe consisted of English dancer Harcourt Algeranoff, his French wife, Claudie Algeranova, and New Zealand dancer Ronald Reay. During the tour, Algeranova left Alegeranoff for Reay. The business was purchased by Sir Henry Meux after a dispute at his previous business, Reid, Meux and Company, resulted in him leaving. The Horseshoe Brewery had previously been managed by Blackburn and Bywell.  The brewery traded under the name Henry Meux and Company. Stereoscopic silver albumen print photographs, each individual image 85 x 70 mm, on board mount 89 x 177 mm with the publisher's imprint recto; numbered and titled in the negative: '896 And They Made It Hotter Still'; a humorous scene with a gambling theme - note the men are in blackface; in fine condition (the mount slightly bowed, as usual). 'And They Made It Hotter Still' is recorded in three Australian collections (NLA; SLV; Museum Victoria).

[Ballarat and Melbourne], The National Game Company, [ca. 1940]. Folding game board printed directly onto thin card, 250 x 250 mm; in fine condition. A very good example of one of the later editions of this game. A scarce Australian-made and designed board game which reflects what it was still like to drive on Australian roads at this time. The hazards encountered by the players include skidding on gravel, sheep blocking the road, and broken axles and springs due to bumpy country roads.

Brimsdown, U.K. : Spear's Games, [1939]. Folding game board of thin card, 210 x 310 mm, in excellent condition; in the original box, 250 x 180 x 25 mm (lid with child owner's name and some pen marks, some minor edge and corner wear); the underside of the box lid has the printed rules; lacking the playing pieces. A simple ""roll and move"" game (with hazards and advances outlined in the rules) designed by Gustav Müller and published shortly before WW2. The box lid features a German Junkers 52. J. W. Spear & Sons was founded by Jacob Wolf Spier (1832-1893) in Fürth, near Nuremberg, in 1879. During the 1930s some members of this Jewish family moved to England to escape Nazi persecution and started to manufacture games under the anglicised name Spear.
