  • Book condition: Fine-
  • Quantity available: 1
Cannery Row by John Steinbeck (author of The Grapes of Wrath, Of Mice and Men, and East of Eden) Hardcover First Edition - First Printing - Second State Binding - First State Dust Jacket Viking 1945. $2.00 cover price inside front dust jacket flap. First Printing since there is NO subsequent printing information on the copyright page. Second state canary yellow boards with blue lines and lettering on the front and spine. NOT to be confused with the wartime edition in blue boards. (see edition information below) Fine- in Near Fine unrestored Dust Jacket. A really nice exceptional copy in dust jacket. The book itself is just about fine with very clean pages. Dust jacket is quite clean and bright at the front, and does NOT have any major tears. Typical edge-wear top and bottom spine and rubbing and nicks to the same and at the corners, and some typical soiling to the back of the dust jacket. Overall a very clean and presentable first edition copy of one of the half-dozen major works of Steinbeck. Note on edition ... Read more

Carrion Comfort

Dan Simmons

  • Edition: First Edition
  • Quantity available: 1
Carrion Comfort by Dan Simmons, Simmons' second book (author of Song of Kali, Hyperion, Fall of Hyperion, Endymion, Rise of Endymion, Ilium, Drood) Hardcover First Edition - First Printing Dark Harvest 1989 states "First Edition" on the copyright page with $21.95 cover price. Illustrated by Dan and Kathleen McNeil Sherman (a.k.a. Kathy Simmons) with exterior wrap-around dust jacket illustration, 1 interior color plate, and 5 interior black and white illustrations. SIGNED. Stand-alone signature of Simmons on the title page. One of Dark Harvest's best book productions. (The other would probably be Swan Song by Robert McCammon) Fine in Fine Dust jacket. A nearly perfect copy, no often found as such! Corners straight, pages bright and clean, appears possibly UNREAD. Dust jacket is completely intact, NO edgewear (which is typical of many copies of this book). Doesn't even seem to be aged much, beautiful for a book almost 30 years old, but essentially appears as new! Only shortcoming, maybe a tiny rub to the lower ... Read more

The Castle of Dark

Tanith Lee

  • Edition: First Edition
  • Book condition: Very Good
  • Quantity available: 1
The Castle of Dark by Tanith Lee (author of Claidi , Piratica, Lionwolf series, Night's Master, Death's Master, etc.) Hardcover First Edition - First Printing Macmillan UK 1978. £3.95 cover price, blue green boards inside dust jacket with wrap-around art by Bridie Page. (No hardcover edition of this book has been released in the US to my knowledge.) Extremely uncommon of one of Tanith Lee's early novels, a foray into Gothic-Fantasy. Very Good in Near Fine Dust Jacket. Book has some reading and shelf-wear, toning to the text-block, but interior is quite bright and readable, only a fingerprint-size stain on the first page, a bit of peeling to the lower boards, and a stamp to the copyright page indicating it was part of some kind of library. Endpapers are present and NO trace of a pocket or any other indignity. The dust jacket is completely intact and very bright and vivid on the outside, does have some dark staining to its back but is not noticeable on the front, and letter-number code on the back flap. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang The Magical Car by Ian Fleming (author of the James Bond books, including "Casino Royale", "Dr. No", "The Spy Who Loved Me", "From Russia With Love" etc.) Hardcover First Edition - Second Printing (?) Random House 1964. (lacks "First Printing" statement on the copyright page) Red cloth with gold-stamped titles. Probably Ian Fleming's only popular children's story, published posthumously. Very Good in Very Good price-clipped Dust Jacket. Sold primarily as a good early reading copy. Former owner bookplate on inside front board. Book is generally in good shape with some foxing on the text block edges, and slight edge-wear along the edges, in a very good dust jacket with typical chipping at upper and lower spine and spotting on the back. One of the classics of children's literature from the 1960's, and made in the Disney film of the same name starring Dick Van Dyke.NOTE: All modern books with dust jackets come with dust jacket covers. The Clue in the Crumbling Wall: Nancy Drew Mystery Stories No. 22

Carolyn Keene (collective pseudonym; actually by Harriet Stratemeyer Adams)

  • Edition: first edition - second state 1946A
  • Book condition: Near Fine+
  • Quantity available: 1
The Clue in the Crumbling Wall Nancy Drew Mystery Stories No. 22 by Carolyn Keene (collective pseudonym; actually by Harriet Stratemeyer Adams) Hardcover First Edition - Second State Dust Jacket New York: Grosset & Dunlap 1945. Identified as a first edition - second state because the last Nancy Drew title listed on the front flap of the dust jacket is "The Secret in the Old Attic" with no mention of the present title. However, the ads at the back are Beverly Gray. The first state should be Judy Bolton. Also, a war-time edition which furthers the case this book is a first printing. Extremely difficult to find with the first state jacket listing the books without mention of the present title. Also with Nancy Drew with a spy glass in silhouette in red on the front board and similar illustration on the front endpapers with other women. Near Fine+ in Very Good Dust Jacket. The book itself is quite clean and solid. Main condition issues are toning to the pages (typical of the war-time editions because of the paper ... Read more

Der Coethnischen Lieder Erster und Anderer Theil, zum Lobe des Dreyeinigen Gottes und zu gewünschter reicher Erbauung vieler Menschen mit Innhalts, Spruch und Anfangs Registern Reuttlingen: Johann Georg Fleischhauer, ca. 1770, (4) 472 (24). I won't attempt a translation except to say this appears to be a book of German song lyrics dating from 1770 with a signed inscription of 1778 and a frontispiece of David at the harp. Whether these are religious songs or secular songs, I am not sure. Appears to be very good in very good binding, written in German black letter throughout. Complete with an added "register" or index at the end. NOTE: The picture is the actual item for sale. (The picture is NOT a stock photo.)

NOTE: The picture of the spines do not do justice to how they really look! The lettering on the spine is a very bright sliver-white, but for some reason they came out dull-looking in the pictures. The Complete Andersen: All of the 168 Stories by Hans Christian Andersen (some never before translated into English, and a few never before published) now freshly translated into English for this new edition by Jean Hersholt and with hand-colored illustrations by Fritz Kredel. Six Hardcover Volumes in Slipcase, The Limited Editions Club New York, 1942/1949. Limited to 1500 signed and numbered copies, the present copy is #319, signed by both Hersholt and Kredel. Six hardcover books in slipcase with paper-covered boards and blue spines, no dust jacket as issued. All books are Fine in a Fine- Slipcase. A truly beautiful set! See pictures of some of the sample illustrations. Most stories appear to have at least 1 illustration, making it 150+ illustrations! NOTE: The picture is the actual item for sale. (The picture is ...
