Description:
London: Macmillan & Co, 1966. First edition. Hardback. Very Good/Very Good. Macmillan, London, 1966. First edition. Book condition: very good. Very minor shelf wear only. A little light creasing radiating out from the binding on first few pages - looks like a binding fault rather than any subsequent problem. Very faint line of tanning to endpapers. Very small area of superficial surface damage to p13 obliterating the initial 'w' in 'wheel', in first line of the poem The Ferris Wheel. Otherwise the book is very clean and unmarked. Dust jacket condition: very good and unclipped. A little shelf wear around the edges and some chipping to the head & tail of the spine and to the corners. Slight discolouration to rear. This is Ruth Fainlight's first collection of poems. Covering a period of seventeen years, they show a preoccupation with the themes of love, solitude, death and power. the potent image of the moon; and a progressive awareness of the symbolic quality of the material world.

Description:
London: Macmillan, 1998. First edition, 1998. Hardback. 261pp. Dust jacket. As Dr Helen Wilkinson stands over the body of her husband Edward it is just as she imagined it so many times before. He looks calm, asleep almost, for his eyes are closed, his hands are folded neatly on top of the sheets. And yet something is not right: in her fantasies there was never so much blood. Book in very good condition. A little 'bruising' to top corners of boards. Some very minor creasing to extremities of top corners of first few pages. Otherwise, the book has a very clean and unread feel. Dust jacket very good and unclipped. Minor edge wear only.

Description:
New York: Henry Holt & Co, 1987. First edition. Hardback. Very good/Fine. Henry Holt & Co, New York, 1987. First US edition. Book condition: very good - a little bumping to upper corners and very slight indentation to upper edge of front board. Dust jacket condition: near fine and unclipped - a little colour fade to spine. This book is a result of over fifty hours of recorded interviews, the story of drunken brawls, abortions, affairs and of the tenderness that existed in spite of these turbulent times. George Tremlett was a longtime family friend and he persuaded Caitlin Thomas to set the record straight about her tortured relationship with one of the greatest poets of our time. Above all, this is the story of the meeting of two innocent souls - a love story, however sad.

Description:
New York: Carol Publishing Group, 1989. First edition. Hardback. Good/Very Good. First edition of US print. The book is in good condition with no dog-ears. The ffep does have a light vertical crease about an inch in from the edge and there is a little discolouration to the end papers - but it is pretty light. The book is square and tight and the boards are bright but again with a little discolouration around the top and bottom - mainly in the area of th spine and the adjacent front & back. It is a very sound book and comes with a very good jacket which suffers only from some light staining on the inner surface that matches with the discolouration on the book itself. Our suspicion is that it was slightly affected by a bit of damp at some stage -but this has not affected the pages or sructure in any way. I guess we don't need to say much about the subject!

Description:
London: Chatto & Windus, 2022. First edition. Hardback. xii, 386pp. Dust jacket in a protective sleeve. In 1905 the young Ralph Vaughan Williams visited King's Lynn in Norfolk to find folk songs "from the mouths of the singers". He had started to collect in earnest just over a year before but was now obsessed with saving these indigenous tunes before they were lost forever. James 'Duggie' Carter, an old fisherman, performed "The Captain's Apprentice", a brutal tale of totrture sung to a most beautiful tune. This is the story of how this mysterious song 'opened a door to an entirely new world of melody, harmony and feeling' for Vaughan Williams. This book traces the contrasting lives of the well-to-do composer and a forgotten King's Lynn cabin boy who died at sea. While exploring her own connections to folk song, via a Hebridean ancestor, a Scottish ballad learnt as a child and memories of family sing-songs, Caroline Davison makes the unexpected…
