Small stamp of "Puritas School" inside of front and rear boards, but no other markings. Interior contents excellent. There are 4 double-page small map reproductions (of Sanson d'Abbeville's) on heavy paper with outline color: North America (Amerique Septentrionale), Canada or New France (Le Canada, ou Nouvelle France), Florida (La Floride), New Mexico and California (Noveau Mexique, Californie- California as an island here). A nice small production, this was to be one of three volumes (just vol. 1 here) translating Sanson's "L'Amerique". The original title page is reproduced here, and there is a person/place name index. Sanson was geographer for Louis XIV, and a forerunner of the great French mapmakers of the 18th century. 56pp text. . First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

John Snyder was a former president of the American Cartographic Association, and taught related courses at Geore Mason Univ. in Virginia. London: William Johnston, St. Paul's-Church-Yard, 1749. Near fine copperplate, b&w as issued, sinle small page highly decorative and detailed celestial representation. Zodiac, horizon, tropic of capricorn, meridian and others shown as a series of circles, with cherub in lower left. From Salmon's "A New Geographical and Historical Grammar: Wherein the Geographical Part is Truly Modern...". The image measures 7x4 inches (18x10cm)..

Amsterdam: Schenk and Valk, 1708. Very good, minimal foxing, early color (with more recent enhancement) copperplate from this 1708 (original version published in 1660 by Jansson) Schenk/Valk issue of (Andreas Cellarius') "Harmonia Macrocosmica Seu Atlas Universalis Et Novus." The striking image measures 43 x 52 cm on a sheet 51 x 60 cm. Numerous cherubim surrond the circular view, as does an outer circle of a number of signs of the zodiac. There are a couple of pinhole defects, repaired verso, with no significant loss of imate. Ref: Koeman, Atlantes Neerlandici, Cel.3..

Nuremberg: Homann Heirs, 1740. G+ with early hand color. Some mild staining lower left margin. Two pinholes (string where bound?) at mid-upper centerfold, with some browning of centerfold (old glue). Very decorative and detailed, with planetary diagrams and scientific (astronomical ) drawings depicting the motion of sun and moon. Braun & Hogenberg, 1598. Near fine, early color, latin edition (applicable text verso). Very decorative town plan of Toledo, Spain from this edition of the famous city atlas. Cherubim, palace, temple all present as separate images. These plans are well-known to collectors, and this particular item is increasingly uncommon. The full atlas was published in 6 volumes, in various editions, from 1572-1617. It was a collaborative work between many artists, engravers and cartographers (for a nice discussion of the history of this atlas, see Goss's THE MAPMAKERS ART, pp. 260-5).
