P. Force, Printer. Washington. 1841. 52 pages. Ex-Lib. The paper covers of this booklet are missing. The title page is present; it has a date stamped on it. There is a library stamp on the title page as well ("Enoch Pratt Free Library of Baltimore City"). The same library stamp also appears on page 52. The pages are lightly to moderately foxed throughout. The binding is tight and all pages are attached. There is no writing on the interior pages except for one stray pen mark on one page. The booklet is protected in a clear, removable plastic sleeve with backing board. The author, Joel R. Poinsett, served as the Secretary of War and Senior Director of the National Institution For The Promotion Of Science (which later became the Smithsonian) at the time of publication. He was also an amateur botanist and during his time in Mexico, sent back some plants to the U.S that later became known as poinsettias.
