Frankfurt/Main: Nissen, Oskar, 1959. First Edition. Wraps. Near Fine. First Edition. 20 leaves. 8vo. Cloth wrappers. A reproduced typescript with 18 tipped in photographs for a paper presented before the Frankfurt/Main Rotary Club on 8 December 1959. Text in German. INSCRIBED by Nissen on the title page. Wraps. Judging solely by the tipped in photographs, this survey of 20 pages covers a lot of ground. There are images showing hand-working of metal, torch welding of metal with resulting multiple visual weld patterns, lattice structures, at least two microscopical views (one a section, the other probably a electron microscope view), all the way to ironwork used in structural construction, and ending with a modern home designed staircase and an art installation. I don't have time to translate the German, but I'll bet it is an interesting read. One of those fun oddities we run into in the book business and are pleased to pass along to those with the same sense of discovery and adventure that we ... Read more

Publisher's yellow cloth decorated with embossed white red and dark green cover design. Front and back endpapers have pasted-in reviews and newspaper commentary on the book. Book is soiled/foxed overall. Cloth. This copy of interest for the full page handwritten evaluation on the half-title verso penned by a "Richard Burton, Prof" in December 1899. In part: "As I write, 'David Harum' is the best selling story - and therefore book, since fiction still has a corner on literature. Why is this? Because it contains one thoroughly racy and enjoyable character...It has no plot worth mentioning, and but little construction... But the tale has a bona fide creation in David himself'; and this is enough to give it a remarkable, and deserved, popularity." Presumably a later printing given that the copyright page is dated 1898, and the title 1899. OCLC sh ... Read more
