An original stapled printed pamphlet,The author, Andrew Dickson White (1832-1918) was an American historian and educator, who was the co-founder of Cornell University and served as its first president for nearly two decades. He was known for expanding the scope of college curriculae. A politician, he had served as state senator in New York. He was later appointed as a US diplomat to Germany and Russia, among other responsibilities. William Jennings Bryan (1860-1925) was an American orator and politician from Nebraska, and a dominant force in the populist wing of the Democratic Party, standing three times as the Party's nominee for President of the United States (1896, 1900, and 1908). He was United states Secretary of State under President Woodrow Wilson but resigned becuase of his pacifist position on World War !. All edges of the text block are gilt. Marbled endpapers. Housed in a custom brown velvet slipcase. The book is in near fine condition and still in the original glassine wrapper. The slipcase shows light shelf wear, but is still in very good condition. We have other titles, in this series, available in this special binding. A title in the series 'Soncino Books of the Bible', edited by Rev. Dr. A. Cohen. This is the first edition, second printing.

Author's fourth collection of poems, inscribed and signed by author on front free endpaper.

Only a portion of the colour pastedown remains. The covers show wear and some soiling. Contents in excellent condition. Unpaginated, with six full-colour plates, and remains of one colour pastedown to one cover. Binding is braided string.

First published in 1846 by the Society, and now a very scarce title, having recently been reprinted in facsimile by AMS Press, but very difficult to find in the original edition. pp. cclxxi, 276. Publication no. xxxiv of the Council of the Camden Society. Elegant bookplate on front pastedown.

Hardcover. pp. 216.,8vo,,,This is a special issue of the first edition, 150 copies only being bound from the sheets of the first trade edition, each of which is numbered (this being #15) and signed by the author on a tipped-in leaf, preceded by a cancel title page bearing the imprint of London Limited Editions. The binding is unique, and different from the trade edition, being half cloth over marbled boards, with the author, title, and series title being lettered and boxed in gilt to the spine. The book is enclosed in the original delicate glassine wrapper. Both the book, and the wrapper, are in near fine condition with no visible flaws.

A very good copy de-accessioned from an unknown library. The spine has been reinforced, and there is a 'withdrawn' stamp to the top of the title page; otherwise, no other markings. The tablet was erected by the Society to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Philadelphia Associated Regiment of Foot.

The text is in the Suelterlin form of German, and the pagination is continuous to page 1,072, when follows sixteen pages of unnumbered text, ending abruptly, thus lacking following pages, the quantity unknown. The only copy of this title, shown on WorldCat, is being held by the university library in Halle / Saale, Germany, and indicates a pagination of [4], [588]. Our copy is bound in full brown leather, with evidence of some very early repairs. Both the binding, and the edges of the pages, show considerable wear. Preliminary and end pages, in particular, are chipped at edges, and darkened. Front blanks, and inside rear board contain hand-written notes, in various early hands, describing what appears to be a family genealogy.
