The sole UK printing published by Combined Arts, Bath in 1988. One of a limited edition of only 950 copies. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just some minor creasing to the bottom left hand side of the first few pages. This edition was published in wrap covers but a handful were especially issued by the publishers as a hardback with decorated cloth covers. This copy is one of the latter copies with Bawden s designed decorated papers, dark blue buckram spine and front corners. The book has been signed in pencil (without dedication) by Edward Bawden to the title page. Although it bears no ownership marks, this copy is from the collection of Peter Sampson of the Merivale Press, who was a friend of Bawden s. The catalogue of Bawden's work in this survey begins in 1922 and proceeds chronologically until 1983, a record of just over sixty years work, mainly in graphic design, book illustration, wallpapers, ceramics and murals. It also includes a list of exhibitions of Bawdens' work from 1926-1987 and… Read more

Description:
The sole UK printing most likely published by the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, London in 1973. The BOOK is in Fine condition. Hand-set and printed in 24-point Bembo on heavy Royal Cornwall paper, and numbered '3' of only 5 copies. Signed by the artist to the limitation page. There were also eight copies on Velin Cuvee paper. Illustrated with 6 full-page and 7 smaller etchings from zinc plates. One of a total bound edition of ten copies in full natural morocco with gilt spine lettering. The binding was undertaken by James Brockman in 1973 with his name and bindery blind-stamp to the upper leather edge of the rear turn in. The acclaimed binder had set up this, his first bindery in 1973. Arthur Neal studied at Camberwell School of Art, 1969-74, and the colophon states that the plates were proofed 1972-73. Neal went on to further illustrate a 'Centenary Celebration of Edward Thomas' in 1978. A very handsome production. Protected in a loose Mylar archival cover.
