Gold-stamped titles. Filled with calligraphic penmanship autographs (1865): Classmates of Edward P. Cramm of Deerfield Centre, New Hampshire. Eastman Business College was in Poughkeepsie NY. Founded in 1859 by Harvey G. Eastman (autograph included here), and was for a time one of the largest commercial schools in America. After the Civil War in 1868, EBC and its affiliate, the New York Business Institute stated in its catalogue. "These schools do not receive students from the Negro Race". The college closed in 1931 (Wikipedia). That site lists "notable alumni". Mr. Cramm was not listed. The numerous signatures seem to be competing for the fanciest style.

Garden City NY.: Doubleday & Company., 1952. First edition. Stated 1st.. Hard cover. Very good in good dust jacket. Discoloration and minor wear to jacket.. 1 531 p. End paper maps, brown and off-white. World / Yugoslavia / Tito / Post World War II / Mid-20th century Communism. Native to Yugoslavia, author Louis Adamic, b.1899-d.1951, emigrated to America as a youth with his family. In 1949, he went to his home country for 7 months to rest, and returned to write this volume, mostly about Marshal Tito and his leadership. Based on interviews with Tito (more than 30 hours) and many others in industrial and country life, in politics, schools, and army camps, Adamic had a story to tell about a country and people in changing times. Near completion, he died and the final editing was done by those named above. Adam had earlier written "The Native's Return", and "My America".

Discard from small NH library.. 1 192 p. 23 cm. Autobiography about a personal and cultural marital collision. A young educated Englishwoman marries a Greek and finds she must also marry Greece. Challenges are a society she finds rigid, with an unchallenged web of custom and superstition; a fatalistic philosophy; arranged marriages and the position of women. Sheelagh Kanelli's book revolves around the gradual resolution to these observations through her own understanding of the meanings of behaviors in Greek life, loosening her early judgments. Thus, a sense of place is described lyrically, spiced with enlightened perception.
