Pamphlets in very fine condition (one, the Haislip, with a tiny corner crease), with only the barest hint of age-toning, in a near fine example of the envelope (with mild rumpling and three tiny closed tears). Description:
Mexico City: Ediciones Arcos, n.d. (circa 1955). First printing thus. 292 pp., 6 x 7.75 inches. Sewn signatures glued into printed card covers. Translated from the Italian by Manuel Alonso Mu√Īoz. Paper evenly browned, small hole in first blank endsheet, and small loss at the top of the spine, but still a sound survival of a cheaply made and fragile production. Malaparte, born Curt Erich Suckert, is perhaps best known in the English-speaking world for his novel Kaputt and his famed house Casa Malaparte (featured in Godard¬ís Contempt). The Volga Rises in Europe (as it is titled in the English version), first published in 1943, collects his reports on the Russo-German war for Corriere della Sera. No information is readily available about the artist who painted the terrific, uncredited cover illustration for this Mexican edition.

Description:
Birmingham, AL: Thunder City Press, 1981. First printing. 56 pp., 5.5 x 8.5 inches. Perfect-bound in printed card covers. Edition of 300 copies. Mark Doty¬ís first three books were collaborations with his wife Ruth, published in small editions under the name M. R. Doty. By the time this last joint volume was published, the couple had divorced and Doty had moved to Manhattan, beginning a new life. His first book under his own name, Turtle, Swan, appeared in 1987. The title page of this copy bears Doty¬ís signature and the date, soon after publication (1/18/82), and the half-title is filled by a long, intimate, and poetic inscription: ¬ďfor Peggy, maestro of puppet operas, snow orchestrator, sunflower collector, stone cataloguer, connoisseur of Fred Astaire, with love and gratitude for your support and brightness.¬Ē Light rubbing to wrappers, otherwise fine. An uncommon book, with a terrific inscription.
