Description:
Oakland: Roi Partridge, 1921 Original etching on steel-faced copper. 6 7/8 x 61/8 inches (impression). Black ink on laid rag paper. Signed and dated within the plate at lower right (Roi Partridge 1921). A very fine example, expertly framed and glazed. A wonderful example of this artist's work. Unlike many of his etchings which are bold and rather abstract, Lone Pine is delicate and detailed, and is one of a total edition of 65 impressions. The plate was then canceled. The etching is signed in pencil at the center of the lower margin, "Roi Partridge." Roi George Partridge was born in Washington Territory in 1888. In 1909 the budding artist traveled to New York City for one year of art study at the National Academy of Design followed by studies in etching in Munich under Brockhoff. Partridge's next three years were spent in Paris where he worked as a printmaker. He returned to Seattle in 1914 and in 1915, forty-four of his etchings were shown at the Panama Pacific International… Read More

Small quarto (9½x6 inches). 44pp. Frontis portrait, 4 photographic plates of rare titles. Red cloth, gilt lettering on spine and front cover. A very fine copy. This copy is a wonderful association copy with a presentation inscription SIGNED by the author to Ben E. Pingenot: "For Ben E. Pingenot in appreciation of a real enthusiast for Texana - from his friend, J. Evetts Haley, Sept. 19, 1965." Ben E. Pingenot (1926-1999) was a well-known collector of Texana and, from 1987, a Texas bookseller. This handsome work is a biography of Earl Vandale, a collector of fugitive and elusive Texana documents, whose passion in pursuit of books set him apart from various collectors. He sold his collection of Texana in January of 1948, acquired by the University of Texas Board of Regents, for $100,000. Ben made a note about this book: "One of the best works on Texana… Read More

Norman: University of Oklahoma Press, 1924 First edition. University of Oklahoma Bulletin, Series 281, University Studies 19. Edited by Stanley Vestal. Small octavo. 8½x5¾ inches. Pp. 91, [1, blank]. Original printed gray wrappers. 2 tiny chips to upper corners of front wrapper. A fine copy. Very rare. A key work on the Cheyenne. Seger probably knew the Indians with whom he worked during most of his life better than any literate white man who has left us a record. Seger, enlisted in the Union Army, participated in Sherman's March to the Sea, and was living in New Malden, Kansas in 1872 when a reservation was established for the Cheyenne and Arapaho people. Seger was hired to build houses and other buildings at the agency school. During this period, Seger developed an unusual rapport with the Cheyenne and Arapaho people, and was asked to serve as superintendent of the Arapaho Manual Labor and Boarding School. Involved with these people for years, Seger eventually (1893) built the… Read More

Chicago: The Lakeside Press; R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company, 1942 Edited by Milo Milton Quaife. 12mo. 315pp. Index. Maroon cloth. Spine faded, else a fine copy. The Lakeside Classics series was started in 1903 by Thomas E. Donnelley, then president of R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company and son of the founder. The basic format of the Lakeside Classics has remained the same for more than 100 years, testifying to the sound design of the first volume. Each 25 years the cover material is changed and type style adjusted to keep pace with current developments in fine book making. Many of the early volumes consisted of the speeches and writings of noted Americans. In 1911 the series took its present character: first-person narratives of American history, usually taken from books long out of print and not easily obtainable..

Weekenders houseboat, wakeboard, and fish through the region's thousands of miles of delta waterways. The author presents a wonderful history of the county via hundreds of pictorial postcards. Includes the communities of Brentwood, Bethel Island, Byron, Discovery Bay, Knightsen, and Oakley and traces their importance in settling and developing the Golden State.
