Upper front and rear hinge split about 1 inch, with a 1/2 inch split along the lower rear hinge. First free endpaper almost detached. Second blank endpaper with a rectangle cut out along its upper edge. Previous owner's signature present. Text block solid with minor scattered soiling and foxing.

Printed wraps, housed in a beige clothbound folders in matching slipcases. 267,238, 140 pp. Illustrations by Gabrielle Bouffay throughout. All text in French. Collection of fables by Fontaine, accompanied by black and white illustrations. La Fontaine is considered one of the key fabulists, and one of the most influential early French writers, who served not only to inspire and shape French literature, but also fabulists of other countries as well. VERY GOOD books in GOOD slipcases. Minor toning and a hint of soiling to the wrappers. Volume 1 with a scuff mark to its front cover. Many pages unopened throughout each volume. Heavy fading to the slipcases, with some fraying and splitting along the extremities, including a notable split to the lower hinge (near opening) of volume 1.

New York: Madison Square Theatre, Publisher, 1881. Wraps. Good. no date, 1881. Printed wraps. Small booklet. 31 pp. Line drawing illustrations by James E. Kelly. A promotional work presumably issued by the Madison Square Theatre, touting both the success of the play Hazel Kirke (this issued around its 400th showing) and the theater amenities, including pumped in cool air. Pages 7 to 25 are drawings, with short accompanying text, of the performance of the play. Hazel Kirke was a play written by actor and playwright Steele MacKaye. He wrote it expressly for the Madison Square Theatre, a theater which he helped remodel, implementing technology such as the double stage. The theater was demolished in 1908. GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy uneven browning to the covers. Minor soiling and staining to the covers.

With critical commentary on paintings. GOOD jacket on a VERY GOOD book. Minor fading, scuffing and edgewear to the jacket, with a three inch tear to the lower rear cover. Heavy fading along the spine. Light fading and edgewear to the book.

A supplemental publication of Facts, this documenting the battles of the Arqoub region of Lebanon, printing photos of people, destroyed buildings, etc., accompanied by excerpts from news sources worldwide that offer information on the battles, or opinions of the Israeli and Lebanese governments. With a map at the end depicting towns shelled by Israeli forces. VERY GOOD condition. Minor toning to the covers. Light curling at the corners.

A publication looking at the conflicts in the Middle East, this issue focusing on the Sinai strategy of Israel and its occupation of the peninsula, its strategic importance, and the political concessions Israel may seek to withdraw from the area. GOOD condition. Minor toning. Some wrinkling, curling and creasing. Faint dampstain along the fore edge.

An anti-slavery, pro-abolition pamphlet issued monthly, with this number containing a speech of Governor William Seward, addressing the dangers of extending slavery, the privileged class of slaveholders and the 'Growth of Our Negro Aristocracy.' Also included is a look at the progress of the abolitionists, and the efforts by the government to 'nationalize' the institution of slavery. Published and edited by Gamaliel Bailey a journalist, publisher and ardent abolitionist. GOOD+ condition. Minor toning and very light soiling to the piece. Number 16 in pencil twice to the front page. Signature to the bottom of the last page. Minor wrinkling. Light creasing and tearing along the fore edge. Binding edge a bit rough. Printed wraps. 70 pp. An assessment of the first three years of the Afro-American Studies Department at Harvard, discussing accomplishments, needs and "unfinished business." While acknowledging in brief student protests that sought the creation of a Black studies department at Harvard, the authors seemingly reject the notion that the students had anything to do with its creation, instead subtly asserting that change was already in the works. Many appendices are included, offering a perspective on Afro-American studies, a report on Black studies, a former student's comments, courses of instruction, etc. VERY GOOD condition. Two release date stamps on the front cover. Light fading and edgewear.
