The volume is bumped on the spine tail, the text leaves are moderately toned, and the rear endpaper is missing. The unclipped dust jacket, protected in a sleeve, has a gently sun toned spine and is nicked on the corners and spine ends.

First edition with the correct listing and sequence of ads at the front of the book, but second state with the words "BY" on the title page, "LORING" on the copyright page, and the page # "109" all with battered type. Green cloth with blind stamped front and rear panels and gilt stamped spine lettering, border, and decoration. The volume is edge rubbed, with boards exposed at the corners, is abraded, worn, and chipped at the spine ends, and there is a 1 1/4" split at the base of the rear joint. The spine is lightly canted. The endpapers and pastedowns have tide marks at the top edge, and are lightly soiled. The text leaves have occasional soiling, one dog-eared corner, light toning, and are over-opened in a few instances.

Knopf, 1974. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Signed. SIGNED, without inscription,. by Alice Adams on the title page. The lightly edge rubbed volume is in a mildly age toned, unclipped, dust jacket. The jacket is in protective mylar.

The volume is edge rubbed and unevenly sunned along the edges. The unclipped dust jacket is heavily chipped (a jagged chip around the spine crown is about an inch deep) and although no lettering is affected, it is not endearing. There is also a water stain on the rear panel, and creasing and abrading on the folds. The jacket is now sleeved in mylar.
