London & NY: John Lane, April,1916. . Vol. 1, No. 1. The first issue of this short-lived periodical. Folio: 29 X 47.5 cm. 58 pages. Pictorial wrappers. This copy is disbound, with some wear to the spine. There is some moderate soiling and edge wear to the outer wrappers, and a closed tear partway across the front wrapper (not touching text or illustration); basically very good otherwise. Internally the sheets are all clean, with no stains or blemishes. Sensational grotesques by Austin Spare, several double-page; also art by Charles Ricketts, Frederick Carter, Frank Brangwyn, and others. Literary contributors include De la Mare & Yeats.

London: Heinemann / NY: Random House, 1931.. Two volumes. Full vellum, spines lettered in gilt. Dust soiling, very good condition. Lower and fore-edges uncut, partly unopened. Limited to 525 numbered copies, signed by Marsh and Gooden.

Burnaby: Blackfish, 1971. First edition. . 7 leaves loose in a hand-sewn portfolio. Some yellow spotting of title leaf, but fine. Limited to 200 numbered copies, signed by Mayne.

Cummington: Cummington Press, 1949. First edition. . Oblong blue-gray wrappers, plain & unlettered, stitched. A fine copy. One of about 2500 copies. Printed as an insert for the magazine The New Colophon, 199 copies were reserved for private distribution. 186 copies were bound in blue-gray wrappers, and 13 in red wrappers. This is one of the 186 copies bound thus. Abbott A9. A FACE is a short poem first printed in HORIZON in 1947.

np: Old Marble Press, 1975. First edition. . A broadside poem, printed on a single sheet. 8&1/2 X 14 inches. Brown stock, printed in black & red. Fine condition. Apparently the imprint is fictitious - actually published at the Black Sparrow Press. Krumhansl 52.

London: Raphael Tuck, [c.1920]. . An illustrated board book which folds out, accordion-style. Size is 3.5 x 4.5 inches. Original ties are present. This was issued in an illustrated box, which is not present with this copy. A couple of small abrasions to covers, some wear to some of the inner folds, a bright and attractive very good copy. The eight included tales are: The Goose Girl, Red Riding Hood, The Beautiful Princess, Beauty and the Beast, The Sleeping Beauty, The Magic Mirror, Cinderella, Snow-White and Rose-Red. A charming little fairytale book.

cat40a. Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill, (1934). First edition. Red cloth, designed and lettered in gilt. A little soiling to upper page edges, light shelf wear, but a very nice, bright copy in a chipped dust jacket. The jacket has been heavily taped internally at edges and folds, causing some discoloration, and has chips from the spine ends and edges, affecting the first word of the title at the top of the spine; still, a pretty decent looking copy. Queen's Quorum 89.

Paris: Meynial, 1924.. This is the outer folder for this 1924 portfolio, containing none of the 12 plates. Pochoir illustration on the front cover. Light edge wear, very attractive.

Toronto: imprimerie dromdaire, 1980.. A single leaf once folded to make a 4-page booklet. Printed in red & black. Fine condition. Fifty copies were printed as a keepsake for the 1980 meeting of the Typocrafters in Toronto.

NY: G.W. Carlton & Co./London: S. Low, 1871. First edition.. cat40a. 48pp. Illustrated title page & illustrations in the text. Disbound, scraps of old binding clinging to spine. Trimmed close; page 11 trimmed slightly into the text; very good otherwise. Wright II: 2708 (8 locations). A satire on Darwin's theory.

Washington: Government Printing Office, 1907.. Original printed wrappers. Wear to spine, chipped at lower spine, ink number on spine, a very good copy in general. Issued as: Smithsonian Institution / United States National Museum / Bulletin 57. Many illustrations in the text; 14 inserted plates at rear.

[np: 1910].. Green cloth, title in gilt on the front cover. 34pp. Two inserted photographic plates. Some spotting of cloth, yellowing of front end papers, but a nice copy. Verses by the four White sisters: Frances Eaton White (Daisy), Mabel Willington, Elizabeth Selden (Lil), and Susan Sherman. A short preface explains the origins and preservation of these writings, and gives some family details. The two photographic illustrations are of the Old Roger Sherman House in Chapel Street, New Haven, and another house on Trumbull Street. Laid in is a TLS from one of the White sisters, Mabel W. Stimson [she married Henry L. Stimson], dated Huntington, Long Island 1952, regarding the death of an old friend. The White sisters were great-great-granddaughters of Roger Sherman, one of the Founding Fathers. This book is rare; no copy in WorldCat or any other reference that we can locate.

NY & London: Putnam's, 1929. First edition.. Black cloth lettered in gilt. Inner hinges cracked, edges of covers worn, generally very good. A scruffy copy of this very scarce novel. Halliday was the husband of actress Mary Martin, who he married in 1940. This novel is an unusual tale of weird relationships, set in Ohio, NYC and Hollywood. An uncommon book.

Victoria: The Author, 1964. First edition.. Blue-gray wrappers, stapled, lettered in pink and light blue on front and back covers. 64pp. Light edge wear and slight fading, a nice clean copy. An attractive booklet, designed by Roy Kiyooka, printed at The Seymour Press. A selection of poems written between 1921 and 1962. Very uncommon.

NY: Minerva, 1892. First American edition.. Green cloth designed in blind. Paper very browned and brittle, front end paper detached, inner rear hinge cracked, very good otherwise. An uncommon novel by the prolific Italian journalist & author.

Berkhamsted: Priapus Press, 1982. First edition. . Blue wrappers, sewn. A fine copy. Of an edition of 350, this is one of 315 regular copies, not signed. A collection of poems.

London: Longman and Broderip, [c.1792 - 1798]. Worldcat cites a copy at Harvard, with a date of [1791], but based on the extensive evidence given in Nicholas Temperley's "Bound For America: Three British Composers" (2003), the slightly later date seems more likely. [28] pages. Folio. Disbound. Some fraying at backstrip, wear to the edge of the final leaf, scattered moderate foxing, generally very good. There are pencil annotations on some songs. The verso of the final leaf prints a catalogue of Musical Publications available from Longman & Broderip. This is Jackson's Op. 3, comprising ten songs: L'Adieu / Sylvia / O'er Desert Plains / The Grove / The Inconstant / Happy Shepherd / Florella / Daphne / L'amant Fidele / The Whim. These songs were written and in some cases published by Jackson between 1778 - 1792. George K. Jackson (1745 - 1822) was a prolific British composer who migrated to America in 1796, where he was active in Philadelphia, New York and Boston. Very scarce.
