A very good copy of the original handwritten draft of the 1661 English BCP reproduced by letterpress and printed in black with printed red rules. Despite the worn binding, a nice unsophisticated copy of this scarce work.

This pamphlet was privately printed in very small numbers for members of this elite club. The pamphlet describes the endeavor as follows: During the session of the General Convention in New York, October, 1874, a few clergymen and laymen associated together to form the Historical Club, for the purpose of putting in print, by photolithographic process, important documents associated with the early history of the American Church. This is the first "catalogue" of the results of these efforts, and is essentially a list of the most important private documents for the American Protestant Episcopal Church, prepared by those who were in a position to know, and consists of some 56 rare and unique items, including private correspondence with Bishops White and Seabury, Charles and John Wesley and other luminaries. The author's personal copy of the Bohlen lectures that he delivered at Trinity Church, Philadelphia in 1914. From the library of Samuel Hart, which experienced a fire that damaged a number of books. As a result, items from Hart's library are extremely rare. Samuel Hart (1845-1917) was dean of the Berkeley Divinity School, the (un)official "middle way" seminary of the Episcopal Church at Middletown, Connecticut. In 1886, he became the third custodian of the Standard Book of Common Prayer. In 1892, he became secretary of the House of Bishops. In 1898, he became the fourth historiographer of the Episcopal Church. He served in all three of these offices until his death. Boumard Fils, also known as Boumard et Fils, was a family-run publisher of religious art, active at the beginning of the twentieth century. Boumard Fils was located in the Saint-Sulpice neighborhood of Paris, the center of the religious printing industry in France. The artwork on their earlier cards is exemplary of the Saint-Sulpician style.

NT with separate title page. 3 volumes bound as one. Hills 1742. Bound in contemporary full brown leather with deep blind stamped patterns on covers and spine. Gilt title and five raised bands to spine. Gilt dentelles. Light wear to edges and corners. An excellent early American family Bible.

Title page soiled, but otherwise pages clean, with all edges uncut and nice wide margins. Scattered light foxing. Library stamp of the London College of Arms, the official repository of coats of arms and pedigrees of English, Welsh, Northern Irish and Commonwealth families, and official copies of the records of Ulster King of Arms. Bound in later black half leather with black cloth boards which are rubbed and lightly worn, mostly at the extremities. ESTCT111946. One of the earliest and most detailed and careful investigations into apostolic succession, preferments and prebends in the English Church.

A very nice lithograph. John Clark Ridpath (1840-1900) was an American educator, historian and editor. He was a descendant (through his mother) of Samuel Matthews, a colonial governor of Virginia. In 1869, he was elected Professor of English Literature at Asbury College, where he served as faculty member and later vice-president, and was largely the originator of the measures by which that institution was placed under the patronage of Washington C. DePauw, from which it takes its current name (DePauw University). His volumes of history were popular and reissued many times by Merrill & Baker (1890-1897) and The Jones Brothers Publishing Co. (Cincinnati, Ohio 1914-1916) and sold by subscription.
