Uncommon FDR title, this noteworthy as it bears the book plate of The Amalgamated Book Club, the members library of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America (ACWA), a labor union founded in 1914 famous for its socialist bent. It merged with the Textile Workers Union of America (TWUA) in 1976. Very good book in worn but presentable dustjacket.

A nice pairing of Fairies and Chimneys (sixth edition 1920 after the first 1918) and its sequel Fairy Green (fourth edition 1921 after the fisrt 1919) both in uniform, binding and near fine condition, in light blue and light red cloth, with same decorative surround to title. Charming. Neatly pencilled ownner name dated 1930 both copies.

Elmsford NY: Fairview Country Club, 1929. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Ownership copy of George Harris, President of the club from 1918 - 1920 with his holograph on pastedown. 8vo, quarter orange cloth over oraneg and silver paper covered boars, title pastedown front. 95 pages. Lots of photos of the Westchester County club, whihc was incorporated in 1904 from what was the Tuckahoe Gold Course, plus some pics of the original Decker Farm on which the course was constructed.

Rufus Matthew Jones (1863 - 1948) was an American religious leader, writer, magazine editor, philosopher, and college professor. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Haverford Emergency Unit (a precursor to the American Friends Service Committee). ones was born into an old Quaker family in South China, Maine where he attended services at the Pond Meeting House and then the newer South China Meeting House. In 1885 he graduated from Haverford College in Pennsylvania, and stayed on to earn his M.A. there in 1886. From 1893 to 1912 he was the editor of the Friends' Review (later called The American Friend); from this position he tried unsuccessfully to unite the divided body of Quakers. In 1901 Jones received another M. A., from Harvard. He also began teaching philosophy and psychology at Haverford in 1893 and continued to do so until retiring in 1934.

Described as "an uncensored autobiography", the homosexual and alcoholic Nichols tells of his attempts to murder his alcoholic, abusive father. Written late in Nichols' prolific career, copies of this title are seldom found signed. A near fine copy, plainly signed by Nichols on the ffe (No other names, bookplates etc.) in slightly rubbed unclipped dustjacket with moderate wear along edges here and there and at corners.

Set owned by Brooklyn bibliophile Oscar Aurelius Morgner, whose world-class printing library was famously auctioned by Anderson Galleries, Mitchell Kennerley, president, in New York City in 1931. With his bookplate on the front pastedown in each voume.

Architectural Association, 1985. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine. American architect Peter Eisenman's deconstruction of a theoretical residential structure,  desrcibed in an illutsrated 24 page booklet with text by Nina Hoffer and Jeffrey  Kipniss and 14 embossed plates printed on white stock and 14 silk-screened color plates printed on grey stock showing the planar dissection of its structure.  All presented in 12.25" square clamshell with titles stamped in pink, which match the pink ribbon pulls for the inserts.  The whole production designed by Massimo Vignelli.  Published on the occasion of an exhibition held at the Architectural Association from February 20th to March 23rd 1985.  A fine copy, and rather uncommon these days.

NY: Random House, 1947. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. Playwright and lyricist E. Y. Harburg's personal ownership copy of one of the most beloved American musicals of mid-20thC for which he co-wrote the book, along with Fred Saidy, and alone the lyrics for the songs, music by Burton Lane. With Harburg's address sticker on the ffe - "E. Y. Harburg/ 262 Central Park West/ New York 24, N. Y." and beneath it in black ink his phone numbers: "Phone SU-7-6986/ office - MU -2-3476" Most famously, Harburg wrote the lyrics to Over The Rainbow, music by Harold Arlen for which they received the Oscar for Best Song. Book near fine, dustjacket very nice, just slightly toned at spine with a tiny chip spine head.
