The corners are bumped and chipped (exposing the boards), and there is a small chip (3/16" x 1/8") on the left side of the of the front panel paste-on. The endpapers have light to mild off-setting from the pastedowns and the text leaves are lightly toned.

Errata slip tipped in after copyright page. The spine is probably rebacked, as it appears the joints are reinforced; spine compartment leather strip with author's name has perished but imprint shows on base leather; corners are refurbished. The gutters also appear to have been touched up and there is light to mild foxing throughout to the text.

Title page in black and red, all chapters headed with capital red letter. Some pages unopened. The volume is lightly bumped on the spine ends and bottom corners, and the spine is gently toned. The pastedowns and endpapers have some light offsetting and leaf 53-54 has 2 vertical creases (from the binding process?) with imprints on the facings leaves.
