Lettering to spine faded, some rubbing and marking but generally good. 1920's gift inscription on front free endpaper.

Simpkin, Marshall, Lodon, 1847. A few woodcuts in the text. Two volumes 8vo (7 x 4 1/2 inches), pages: 149 & 130 (1, advertisement), original green blindstamped fine ribbed cloth; some marking, headbands worn, one backstrip a little chipped. Overall however very good. Uncommon.

A few scuff marks to upper board, corners bumped but generally very good. Inscribed by Stjernquist "Professor John Evans with best wishes". From the library of the eminent archaeologist Professor John Davies Evans (1925-2011). He was director of the Institute of Archaeology (now part of University College, London) from 1973 to 1989; renowned especially for his research into the prehistory of the Mediterranean, particularly the prehistoric cultures of Malta.

John Murray, London, 1846. First edition. Small 8vo (7 1/8 x 4 3/4 inches), pages: x:342. Contemporary half tan calf, marbled boards. Headband chipped, upper cover almost detached, rubbed. Label of the "Beauport Lending Library 1856" on front pastedown, no other markings. Internally very good and clean.

for J. Knapton, London 1731. Part 2 1732. 8vo (7 x 4 1/8 inches). Both parts unpaginated( but ca. 500-pages in total). Contemporary full dark polished calf, spine gilt within raised bands, burgundy lettering piece. Base of spine very chipped, upper fore-corner of upper cover gnawed away. Early inscriptions on front endpapers, signature on title and ink marks and a crease. Lower and upper damp tide mark to the first 10 leaves.

Original red bevelled cloth gilt, vertical crease to backstrip. Upper inner hinge cracked and front free endpaper detached. Foxing to prelims. Headbands with short splits, name on half-title.

Hurst & Blackett, 1857. Numerous engraved armorials in the text. Tall 8vo (10 1/2 x 6 1/2 x 2 3/4 inches), 1190-pages + advertisemenrs. Original red cloth blocked in blind and gilt. Backstrip very crudely taped as is the upper inner joint, otherwise, internally, very good. Weight 2.2 kg thus extra postage will be requested.

Contemporary full tan calf, sides ruled in gilt, gilt race horses blocked to upper cover, a jockey to the rear, rebacked in calf retaining most of the original backstrip blocked in gilt with jockey's caps; corners rubbed. Internally lacking free endpapers, some foxing and browning. Bound without the half-title. Very rare.

Some rubbing, damp marking to portrait. Neatly rebacked at an ealy date retaining the original backstrips; corners rubbed.
