Gouda: B. Van Goor, 1865. Vierde (4th) edition. Complete with six hand coloured plates by Trap (author unknown). Date is approximate. Scarce edition - copies of the 3rd and 5th appear in libraries with dates of 1854 and 1875 respectively. So estimate this circa 1865. Original brown buckram with gilt titles and decoration to front and rear boards. Binding is cracked to the paper, although the string is holding well. A little darkening and edge wear to the pages. Some small coloured cuts stuck to the front end paper. 80 pages. 160 x 110 mm (6¼ x 4¼ inches).

Contains Frontis, two engraved title pages (one in English), and 79 further plates (so 80 plates and complete. Pages are mainly in good, clean condition, with a little foxing to some pages and plates. Slight cracking to one gather, but holding well. Many of the engraved plates are clearly English in origin, and are made by artists including Harvey & Blanchard; Geoffrey; Laisne; Gouttiere; Gautier etc. Interesting volume; besides giving a series of pictures illustrating the various plays, it contains a chapter on the Portraits of Shakespeare, the Contemporaries of Shakespeare, the Commentators of Shakespeare, and the celebrated Actors who have played in Shakespearian roles (occupying 32 pp. in all). Blind-embossed lithograph based on a design by Bruno Karberg. An attractive, art-deco design, with gilt and colour detail. A little rubbing to the name and date (printed after the original sheet) and slight darkening / marking to the sheet, but overall in excellent condition. Bruno Karberg was a German graphic artist based in Hamburg. Was a student of O. Czeschka at the arts and crafts school. Amsterdam: H.G. Koster Hgz., 1869. Stated fourth edition to title page. This was originally published by Nolet & Zoon. This edition is published by Koster, but appears to be substantially the same. Four tinted lithographs (Frontis and three plates with two images to each) by van P. Blommers of 's Hage. The lithographs were presumably made for an earlier collection, as they have random plate numbers to them (13, 19, 25, 3, 50, 42, 45). Buckram spine and blue printed boards. No titles. A little nicked and bumped to the edges. Front and rear end papers are each 2/3rds of the width of the book, but appear to have been produced this way (not torn or cut). Slight darkening to the pages, and a few foxing spots, but overall a very nice copy of a scarce item. Göttingen: Bei H. Dieterich , 1805. A collection of 15 prints numbered 1 to 15, etched in outline style by Franz and Johannes Riepenhausen after Pausanias's descriptions of the paintings by Polygnotos in the Lesche at Delphi. Scarce, with library holdings. First Edition. This home made collection has some unusual features. The plates are bound in a soft card cover. A hand written label to the front cover states "Tableau Perdu, de Polygnote" and further information about the work. To the inside cover is a manuscript leaf tipped in, with notes in French on each of the plates. Engraved title page, a plate with all 15 engraved plates shown in order in miniature (plate 1). (Unfortunately numbered 1-15 in early red ink). The plates have been bound back to front, and each has 2 numbers - the printed number (here 15 down to 1) and a manuscript number in black (here 1-15). Date of publication suggested by the Bodleian Library. Scarce in this format. Fairy tale by Charles Perrault, rewritten and illustrated by Cruikshank. Boards slightly rubbed. Original soft covers are bound in. Six illustrations with tissue guards. 30 pages, 6 unnumbered leaves of plates. Slight rubbing to the edges of the spine. The binding has split to the inside rear hinge, so that the book block falls away - but is still held in place (see photograph). Front end paper is reinforced with archival tape. 180 x 140 mm (7 x 5½ inches).

Koldewey was captain of the Germania; the 'Hansa' that was crushed by ice in October 1869. Overall in a very good condition. Minor handling, and light grubbiness to page edges. Signs of some creasing in folding of map at rear, and a small closed tear to outer edge (map not affected). Attractive library bookplate to front and back paste-down. This poster is mostly black with white text, and advertises a permanent exhibition 'Geteilte Interpretationen Maler sehen die Mauer' - the translation in English is roughly "Shared interpretations. Painters see the wall". Includes five examples of art pieces from the exhibition. In excellent condition. Under glass and in a black frame. 510 x 410 mm (20 x 16¼ inches). Can be sold with or without frame. The Mauermuseum – Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie was founded immediately after the wall that divided Berlin was built and the museum opened its doors in October 1962. It's location was chosen "To be as close as possible to injustice, that's where human greatness unfolds most." according to the museum's founder, Dr. Rainer Hildebrandt. The museum can still be found in Friedrichstrasse in Berlin.
