Educated: Jesus College, Cambridge; natural historian, mineralogist, traveller, and collector of antiquities, some of which he donated to British institutions and some he sold. Among the later, the Clarke Codex of Plato's dialogues, dated 895CE, the oldest surviving manuscript of Plato's Tetralogies, was sold to the Bodleian Library for £1000.
