This is a scarce title of a publication on homoepathic medicine which flourished in the 19th century both in Europe and abroad. Collation: Part I- Engraved title page, [viii], [3]-130,[5], [1-blank]pp.+ 12 copper engraved plates; Part II-[3]-69,[26]pp. This is important two part 17th century German work by Welsch on material medica. The engraved plates illustrate minerals and plants that are used for preparing medicinal treatments.

Paris: La veufue Arnold Byrkman,, 1549. Full Vellum. Very Good. 8vo. (16.4 x 10 cm) Bound in 17th century vellum with period endpapers. Collation: viii [16], 1-520 p. (p.387/388 supplied in facsimile). Includes 519 woodblock prints. Small circular institutional stamp (Maison de Poesis Fondation Blemont) on title page and several other pages, ca. 3 more. All 517 woodcuts have images with early coloring, many of the roots left uncolored. The plants depicted on facsimile pages in modern color. Text and plates generally good with occasional foxing spot. There was some tight trimming when the book was rebound that shaves close to text at the fore edge of several pages without apparent loss. This is a very rare copy made even more so with any coloring of woodcut images. Each page has a woodblock of the plant toward the gutter and text at the fore edge. There are five sections or chapters to his small monograph on the rose: in the first, Guillemeau introduces the flower, describes itstypes and varieties and provides an analytical table based upon the classification system of Lamarck; next, the cultivation of numerous varieties is examined, and suggestions are made for the formation of a rosary; Chapter III examines the medicinal uses of roses and their special properties, the varieties used in simples, those used in particular remedies, and the receipes used to produce rose water, oil, vinegar and syrups; Chpater IV discusses insects; and Chapter V discusses the literary lore of the rose, reprinting a variety of early verse and prose, including one of Guillemeaus's own poems. Collation: Vol. 1- 2 + 176 pp.; Vol. 2- 63 engraved plates hand colored except for last two anatomical plates. This is a complete set of text and plates. The volumes have original orange paper on boards and half calf leather binding. The leather is recent but in style of period. The spines have raised bands with new black leather labels- author and title in gilt. Central panel on each volume has volume number in gilt. Remaining panels blank. Double gilt border on leather at interface with paper boards. Both volumes have wear on the boards. All edges of text block painted in red ink. Internal condition is exceptionally good for both volumes. There is one page in the text volume with some age browning and very occasional marks on a few other pages. Lugduni Batavorum: apud Gerardum Potvliet, 1735. Full Vellum. Very Good. 2 Volumes in one. 4to (21 x 17 cm). Contemporary vellum on boards. Collation: [xx] 248 [12]; [viii] 306 [24]p. + 102 copper engrave plates that includes both animals and plants. The binding has some buckling and remnants of mold stain on back cover. Author and title in early ink on spine. The internal condition is generally very good. The previous exposure to moisture which apparently did not enter the text did however cause apparent wicking that buckled plates and text pages. There is corresponding evidence of small amount of light mold stain at the tail region as well as some light browning to some plates. The collation of plates is correct but two plates from the first work are in the second. Also, not all numbers on plates are present or visible. There is ample margin throughout the book. Leyden: Apud Theodorum Haak & Henricum Mulhovium, 1734. First Edition. Full Calf. Very Good. 1st Edition. 4to.(24.1 cm) Contemporary brown mottled calf. Collation: [3], 4-696 pp. + 8 engraved plates. The plates are in two states, engraved and diagrammatic that were done by the renowned artist, Jan Vandelaer. The diagrammatic plates have labeling for each muscle. Binding has repairs to ends of spine and corners. Spine with raised bands and six panels. All edges are in red. Text and plates have minor edge foxing and some leaves browned. This is a very good copy of an important work by one of the pre-eminent anatomists of 18th century Germany. In this work Albinus was able to provide the detail he could not find in other works and, as such, it represents a major advance in anatomy and medical illustration. Flora pattern on paper; Wear to boards with some loss of paper along spines and covers; Some damp staining. Collation: [iv], 211 [with two un numbered pages between p.101-102],[1-blank],[32 &Index]pp. The unnumbered pages in the text have a note in Latin that appears to indicate the reason for the blank pages. The entire leaves forming the text were bound tightly. Reading all names or comments requires opening the book wider to see into the gutter. There are occasional words with corrections, some ink spots and minor foxing, mostly in center of leaves from pp. 130-140.Title page is written in black ink in neat block lettering with date at base. Collation: [16], 576, [70] p.+ engraved frontispiece and 36 woodblock prints in text or singly. The frontispiece has allegorical figures in a garden, with arms of the University of Bologna. Bottom of spine repaired with new vellum. The internal condition is very good. This is a very scarce title from an Italian botanist and brother of naturalist Batolomeo Ambrosini. He succeeded his brother to the chair of botany at the University of Bolognia and also assumed direction of the botanical garden. His first work was Hortus Bononia studiosirum consistus which was followed posthumously with the Phytologiae offered here. The Phytologiae was intended to be the first of a two-volume dictionary of plants with the second to be on trees. The second volume was never completed. There is a hymn pamphlet attached to rear paste down in Omaha language: "Near My God to Thee" by Rev. J. Owen Dorsey, Sante Ntional Training School Press, Santee Angency, Neb. 1894. Binding has title on spine, some paint marks on front cover and water spots on front and rear covers. Text has damp staining along fore edge for first 35 pages extending occasionally to a few text letters. The bottom edge for many of the same pages has a small brown stain in center. There is some minor smudge marks in the margins of a few pages.
