From the library of Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., and inscribed to him by the author, "For Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Thank you for your help -- With Admiration and Gratitude, and In Memory of dear Marlene -- Eryk Hanut / May 96." Sir Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. (1909-2000) was an iconic American actor (credited with more than 50 films, including the starring role in “Gunga Din”), and a highly decorated naval officer of World War II. Dietrich sang "Song of Songs" opposite Fairbanks for Lux Radio Theatre in December 1937, though their personal and professional connections go much deeper than that. (They were lovers for a spell. Fairbanks admits in his memoir "A Hell of War" that she was "too sophisticated" for him.) A nice association copy, linking the two legends of Hollywood's Golden Era.

Lacking frontis? Text block faintly browned; small spot of soiling on title-page; some tidy underlining here and there; light wrinkling along top edge of first few leaves, nowhere extending beyond the margin. Flaws are very minor -- overall, a nice, bright copy.

The texts are printed in Greek with the English translation on the facing page. This edition was limited to 477 sets for members only, printed at the De Vinne Press on specially made hand-made paper. Light wear only. A near fine set.

The are 4 volumes devoted to America; 3 to Africa; 7 to Asia; 2 to Asia Aggiunte; and 10 volumes in 16 to Europe. Lipperheide 51, cites a folio edition published between 1817-1834; Hiler, p.311, citing an 1827 Milan edition; Colas cites other editions. Page edges and some spines darkened from smoke, some extremity wear and a few spines dampstained; occasional foxing and dampstaining to contents, else very good.
