Book is Very Good Plus or better, rebound in very nice green cloth with a nice black mottled pattern, very clean, spine has gilt title with ornamentation, retains original end papers, Binding is Fine. Text would be at least Very Good Plus. No frontis as issued. The book does have the scarce dedication page to Fremont's wife Jessie. Book is evenly toned but does have a few random small brown stains, also small stamp "Property of U.S. Army" stamp on title page. The first portion of the narrative is 250 pages and documents authors travels as artist for Fremont's fourth 1853 expedition looking for a railroad route through the Rockies.
