This is the first manual on how the model Soviet textbooks had to be designed, constructed and produced. After the 1920s book diversity of styles and print quality was ceased by the resolution 'On the Restructuring of Literary and Artistic Organizations' (1932), the control over book publishing strengthened in all directions. In 1932, the OGIZ Research Institute analyzed polygraphy and design of contemporary printed materials that were published the same year. As a result, lists of flaws were compiled and reports on different types of books were declared by art and book historian Konstantin Kuzminskii (1875-1940). Soviet periodical about contemporary achievements and inventions in tech worldwide, published in 1923-1926. The magazine was edited by Lev Liberman and Sergei Pozniakov. The edition became one of the tribunes for Constructivist principles of theorist and artist Alexei Gan (1887-1942). He designed impressive constructivist covers, advertisements and the internal layout. Every cover was printed in two colors varying the composition of the title and illustration. Spine repaired with marbled paper, tears of the spine, otherwise very good. First edition. One of 250 copies. Signed by author on the front cover, some author's corrections in the text. Extremely rare provincial edition (Melekess is the small town in Ulyanovsk region) on izba-chital'nia (reading hut or rooms), the main tool in the Soviet campaign of eradication of illiteracy. The book gathered sketches from Skomorokhov's lectures on organizing such cultural centers. For example, the founders had to select special days or hours for women and young men providing them freedom of discussions. The organizers also needed to have a direct connection between reading rooms and the local periodicals. Overall interesting piece of the early Soviet provincial culture. Worldcat doesn't track this edition.

Very good, curious contemporary pencil notes on the front flyleaf (in verse and prose). The unknown inscriber calls the book 'the album that measures human feelings' but then adds 'You could measure the forms, but you can not measure the great in the art: the feelings and the humanity'. First and only issue. One of 6000 copies. Rare. This is the book on the Russian furniture created in the period when the Russian craftsmen were the most independent from European tendencies. In connection with the French revolution, the trade relations between the Russian Empire and France became sharper. As a result, the popular French furniture was banned for mass import. Very rare.  This is a manual for artists of the worker's clubs and reading rooms, the main cultural centers for the Soviet workers and peasants. It is written by the Soviet artist Nikolai Maslennikov (1895-1950) who gives advice about his craft. He introduces drawing as an experiment of the personal perception of the world around and performing it by the different tools - brush, pen, stick - everything that could be used for drawing by ink and paint. Explaining how to catch a core of figure or action, he prepared artists to create the correct objects for the wall newspapers and posters. Kliment Arkadievich Timiryazev (1843-1920), famous Russian botanist and physiologist, highly-regarded popularizer of science widely known for his enthusiastic public lectures, and moreover, a confirmed Darwinian, a point of view rarely espoused in czarist Russia. In 1910s Timiryazev was foremost Russian botanist of the day. His main scientific achievement was the development of experimental and theoretical problems of photosynthesis in plants.
