Description:
Dust Jacket: Blemishes - 2" tear on front panel bottom, small 1" chip on top of front panel (photo). Tear on the top of the spine. Rubs on panel edges (photo). The overall structural integrity of the DJ is very good and is reinforced with complimentary Mylar cover. The flap is unclipped and suggested retail price is visible.
Book: Blemishes - Uniform light toning of the pages, unsurprising for a 60-year-old book. The top/bottom of the spine is rubbed, caused by shelf wear. The remainder of the book is in exceptional condition. The boards are clean and free of mars, the gilt lettering on the title board and spine is bright and unblemished. No breakage in the spine/board junction, strong and firm.
Author Signature: Undedicated and undated signature on the first free endpaper (photo). Jordan was a native Oregonian and after graduating from the University of Oregon (English) married Len B. Jordan. They later moved their family to a ranch on the Snake River. Len entered politics, and became state and US… Read More

Description:
No Dust JacketBook: Chipping on the bottom edge of the Title Board. The remainder of the book is pristine. No shelf rubs. No page toning. The boards and spine are firm and tight. "Biodiversity-the genetic variety of life-is an exuberant product of the evolutionary past, a vast human-supportive resource (aesthetic, intellectual, and material) of the present, and a rich legacy to cherish and preserve for the future. Two urgent challenges, and opportunities, for 21st-century science are to gain deeper insights into the evolutionary processes that foster biotic diversity and to translate that understanding into workable solutions for the regional and global crises that biodiversity currently faces. A grasp of evolutionary principles and processes is important in other societal arenas as well, such as education, medicine, sociology, and other applied fields including agriculture, pharmacology, and biotechnology. The ramifications of evolutionary thought also extend into learned realms… Read More

No Dust Jacket
Publisher Shipcase. Blemishes -- Rubs and small chips on case tips and edges (photo). Liquid spot stains on back panel (photo). The all-important colorful front panel is largely preserved and still bright colored, particularly given the fact that it is 81 years old.
Book. Blemishes -- Uniform moderate toning on all page surfaces and edges. The remainder of the book is Very Good condition. No marks or entries. Shaw's brilliant color plates are unmarred (photos). The binding is still strong and firm, the book lies flat, plumb, and square (photo).
Note: This issue is a Deluxe Edition, a rare printing with two distinct features for the discerning book collector to ponder. First, is the quality of the paper for a country at war and paper production was severely restricted. Likewise, the slipcase. Few slipcase publishings were allowed during 1942 - 1945 in the United States.
Publisher Comment: "The poetry of Laurence Hope holds a unique place in modern literature. No other writer has caught… Read More
