Description:
New York: Funk & Wagnalls Company, 1971. 187 pages. Signed by Eric Sloane with a charming original drawing of the covered bridge pictured on the front of the dust jacket. Book is a combination of Sloane's reminiscences of his youthful life and a bygone era in America, with 37 oil paintings reproduced in color. The modern world fairs poorly in his estimation. The clean, tight book is lightly edgeworn; some foxing to top of front and rear cover-cover slightly bowed out; a couple spots on fore edge. The interior is still clean, bright and sound. The clean and attractive dust jacket is price clipped; some small closed tears and 1 1/4" closed tear with fold on rear. Photos available upon serious inquiry.. SIGNED. 1st Printing. Hard Cover. Collectible-Very Good/Very Good-. Oblong 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Tall. Book.

Description:
London: Henry Colburn, 1841. 2 volumes: 356, 270 pages. First edition. Rebound in 3/4 red morocco circa 1895-1915 by Stikeman & Co. (Henry Stikeman) for the bookstore of Charles Scribner's Sons. Marguerite Gardner was a socialite and writer who published two travelogues/memoirs: The Idler in Italy (1939) and The Idler in France (1941). First printings of the latter are much more scarce. Our example is enhanced by the gilt decorated binding signed by Stikeman & Co., art bookbinders who frequently rebound books for Scribner's in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The books are in near-fine condition: bindings a clean, bright and tight, with minimal color rubbing along joints; pages are clean and bright, with perhaps the barest hint of toning.. First Edition. Hardcover. Collectible-Fine-. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.

Description:
Antwerp (?): Unknown Publisher, 1835. Hand-colored illuminated vue d'optique. 6 3/4 inches by 8 3/4 inches. Prior to the invention of photography perspective views, called "vues d'optiques" by the French, were a specialized approach to engraving that exhibited a heightened perspective to approximate a 3-dimensional effect. Those precursors to photographic stereoviews frequently were hand-colored. Most of them were designed to be viewed via mirrors in a device like a zograscope. Less common were translucent prints that had to be backlit (for example in a "peep-show" box) to be seen as perspective views. Such "illuminated vues d'optiques" are now much more scarce. The vue d'optique offered here is a circa 1831-1835 view of a section of railroad track (with a steam engine) that is almost certainly an artist's conception of a proposed rail line between Liege, Belgium and Aix-la Chapelle (Aachen), Germany. It is a very attractive view that is in… Read More
