Condition: VERY GOOD / no jacket: a few scuff marks to the covers, some pages are uncut and a handful, opened by an idiot, have small chips; faint discoloring to the overhanging pages, very faint smattering of foxing but plates are unaffected. A lovely book really and 7000 miles of delightful British adventures await you.

Various.. 8vo, red cloth with gilt lettering on front and spine, top edge gilt, deckled edges, 502 pages, 44 b/w illustrated plates, index, list of "Works by the Brontës." Condition is VERY GOOD / no jacket: slight rubbing to spine extremities, a slightly toned spine, owner bookplate of Edith Scoville ["Be of Good Cheer"], some light foxing stains to deckled edges with very light scattered foxing on some pages (it is minor, a bit more foxing is on the title and dedication page), illustrations are clean. This is a lovely book, one of the earlier biographies. Chadwick lived in the Haworth area for a few years; she also wrote a book on Elizabeth Gaskell. "A few years after Esther Alice Chadwick (fl. 1882-1928) - who wrote under the name Mrs Ellis H. Condition is GOOD+ / no jacket: boards are rubbed, esp. at corners, spine head and tail have small tears, front hinge sl. loose (webbing just exposed at ttile page), pages are clean excepting a few pages that have faint foxing. Hester Lynch Piozzi (1741 - 1821), known mostly as Mrs.Thrale, was a good friend and correspondent of Dr. Johnson.

Reprint ed, originally published in 1832-3. 32mo (4 ½"), brown blind-stamped publisher's cloth with gilt decoration on cover and spine, all pages gilt, yellow eps, 109 pages. Condition is NEAR FINE: slight bumping to spine head and tail and corners, otherwise this little book is like new - somebody took very good care! It is Well; or, Faith's Estimate of Afflictions seems to be a companion piece to Bedell's work "Is It Well? or, Three serious and interesting Questions to Wives and Mothers" also first published in 1832-3.
