The book is cracked at the hinge in the center photo section, causing one photo to be partially detached. The book lays flat, and is still pretty tight. The jacket is sunned on the spine and edges of the front panel. The author and her husband. Paolo, moved to Kenya and she ultimately established a 900,000 acre property; but in the process lost her husband, and her son Emanuele, to the harsh conditions in Kenya. Laid in is a printed card on heavy cardstock that says "In memory of Paolo and Emanuele".

The red lettering on the spine is slightly sunned, as compared to the bright red on the front panel. The jacket is different than the jacket on the trade edition. The white portions of the jacket are slightly soiled, and there is a bit of wear at the bottom of both gutters. There is also a small closed tear across the middle of the spine. The slipcase is bumped at the upper corner of the spine (the book is not bumped), and there is also some edgewear to the green paper covering the cardboard slipcase.
