Near folio sized. 11 inches tall. 18 inches of shelf space. VERY GOOD condition. Very fresh and supple leather bindings. The hinges are 100% fully attached. Extra-reinforced internally. Printed on quality paper. Fully illustrated. Early stamp. No writing. Very fresh, bright, and clean. Appears about free of any trace of foxing. This is a very large and impressive set. These display beautifully. A gorgeous Victorian encyclopedia on par with the Encyclopedia Britannica. Beautiful illustrations, color maps, and tables. A pleasure to read. Description:
London: Macmillan, 1894, 1895. First Edition, First Printing. The First Printings of both books, with copyright and title pages dated 1894 on The Jungle Book, and 1895 on The Second Jungle Book, both with no subsequent printings listed. This London Edition preceded the American Edition, and is the most desirable printing of this book. Original publisher's blue cloth, lettered and decorated in gilt. These are housed in an early morocco leather, custom slipcase, which has been designed to look like two leather bound Jungle books, as shown. The two leather books are actually only the front facade of the slipcase, and has a removable top, which reveals an internal fixed chemise mounted within the slipcase. This custom slipcase would have been a fairly costly and extensive undertaking to design the front facade, requiring a bindery to create two book bindings.
