1912. Very good. Large single sheet printed in full color showing Jack and the Bean Stalk originally published in 'A Child's Book of Stories', 1911. This captioned: 'Fifth in the Series of Favorite Fairy-Tale Pictures'. Sometime cropped and mounted on black paper. The reverse is printed also and seems to be from an unidentified journal; our dating of this illustration is based on the date in an article on the reverse. Image size is approximately 10 by 14 inches, now matted in a 14 by 18 inch mat. In very good condition.

London: Dean and Son, 1855. Early Edition. Broadside. Very good. 8 leaves, printed on one side only. 7 large woodcut illustrations, and a small initial vignette, all hand-colored. Paper wrappers, included in the collation. Back wrapper lists Dean and Son's Sixpenny Toy Books; large closed tear in bottom margin with no loss of text. Nearly disbound, the fold and the spine separated and with remnants of sewing thread. Light soil and wear to edges. A scarce survival, protected in a custom folder of blue and red cloth, gilt title. See Osborne, which lists two other titles in the series (but not this one).

Original blue T-grain cloth; gilt spine titles and a gilt illustration of the knight in gilt on the upper board. All edges gilt. Illustrated by I. W. Orr. Eight full page contemporary hand-colored illustrations. Binding soiled and worn, especially at edges and hinges; textblock is in very good condition. Translated from the French version of Mary Lafon by Alfred Elwes. This is the story of Jaufre,the only surviving Provençal Arthurian romance. In it, Jaufre sets out to avenge affronts to Arthur and Merlin, but falls in love with the mistress of the castle of Monbrun. Arthurian Encyclopedia, p. 251 and 118. Scarce.

Rhododendron, OR: Pressed Duck, 1977. Limited edition. Stiff card wraps. Fine. Thin oblong 4to. Unpaginated (12pp.) Stiff card covers with a black and blue jay pasteon to the upper cover. Charmig artist book about a jay, each page illustrated with airbrush prints, and in colors that start of a pale blue and end up a rich deep blue as the Jay goes higher and higher. One of 90 numbered copies, this is No. 75 and is signed by Mac Gregor. In fine condition with only a trace of edge wear.

Upper board and pastedown artfully restored to style, lower hinge strengthened, light dampstain on the lower part of the first 50pp or so, else a very good copy. Selden's famous treatise on the study of Syrian mythology in the Bible which established the jurist's reputation as a leading scholar of Asian history. In Latin.

London: Dean & Son, 1860. Only edition. Hardcover. Very good. Large 8vo. Colored upper board, cloth spine, rear board printed in black on purple paper with a list of Dean's "New Series of Strüwelpeters". Illustrated with eight full page hand-colored woodcuts. The page following the last of the illustrations contains a carved face of the "jolly old man" about an inch high which penetrates right through the book to the front cover, the faces of the woodcuts being cut away . Beneath each plate is a rhyming verse about the activities of the Jolly Old Man. Additional publisher's advertisements are on the pink endpapers. Apparently respined at an early date, with some glue residue along the inner hinges. Boards are soiled with rubbed corners and edges; there is some paper loss to the rear board just affecting the numbers of the Strüwelpeter list. Overall a very good copy and a scarce survival.

The portfolio has a littler wear in the spine area and a short name in ink else it is near fine, and the plates are in fine condition and are printed either on white stock or thin blue paper.

The full page engraved plate of the Draught of the Harbour of Praya (Cape Verde) is present. Bound to style with leather spine, marbled paper boards, leather lettering label, gilt. Light aging and some foxing on a couple of pages, else a near fine copy. The author was commander of a ship trading for ivory, gold and slaves. There are descriptions of the stowing of slaves, winds and sea conditions, as well as small pox infecting the ship. Cox 1, p. 374.

Full sprinkled calf, probably 19th century; Spine in six compartments, gilt. Red and green lettering labels, gilt. Marbled endpapers. Half title present. Hinges rubbed and cracked but firm; tip of spine worn; a few lower text margins near the end slightly soiled, not affecting the text; else a very nice copy. With the Gustavia A. Senff bookplate on the front pastedown. This is the Doheny copy, with her leather gilt bookplate on the front free endpaper. Two versions of this work were printed in 1755. This is the version edited by Fielding's half-brother John. The unedited version was printed first but suppressed in favor of the edited version, which, though printed later, was the first version issued. Rothschild 857; Cross III, 326-7; Warde 28. T131333.
