This is a picture book using simple vocabulary, intended for Aboriginal students in small northern communities. Young pups or an older family dog are usually given to a boy to practice with. There are certain to be difficulties with harnessing and control, but parents let children learn for themselves with a minimum of advice". It contains the typical Jack and Jill mix of stories, articles, and verses, but has an extra long "Things to Do and Make" section. The interior is clean, and the stapled pages are firmly attached. One puzzle has been filled in, but there are no other marks.The covers shows some wear at tips and corners, light rubs and handling, and a small inked price on the front panel that has been crossed out. A nice copy of an unusual item.

The book itself is in excellent condition. The interior is clean and crisp, with a clean, crisp interior, containing 4 full-colour Tarrant illustrations, and many 2 colour in-text drawings. The illustrated board covers are bright, with only a bit of wear at tips and corners. There is no dust jacket. A very nice copy this large-format (11 ¾ x 9 inch) Tarrant picture book.

Tinkle and Jake overlap for a while, but Tinkle dies about half way through.
