Nalchik: Kabardinobalkarskoe GIZ, 1940. 110, [2] pp.: ill. 26x19 cm. Original illustrated cardboards. Bleak stains on the title page, remains of a label on the spine, tears and small losses of boards extremities. One of 3000 copies. First translation to Kabardino-Circassian language. The book originally published in 1936 became immensely popular right away. The illustrations by Elena Safonova (1902-1980) featured in the first Russian edition as well and became classic. As often the case with the North Caucasian languages Arabic characters were being used in Kabardino-Circassian script before 1917, then latin in 1924-1936 and after all-Union decision to transform everything to Cyrillic it was changed again. This is one of the early examples of the use of Cyrillic letters for Kabardino-Circassian language.

Very rare. This is one of the most famous masonic books of the 18th century - the ABC book for Russian Freemasons. The first Russian translation was published by Nikolai Novikov in 1783, and soon it became one of Russian rarities even though a few new editions were published later. Nikolai Novikov (1744-1818) was one of the key figures during the Enlightenment era in Russia and Moscow Freemasonry in 18th century. Light tanning to the wrappers, slightly rubbed on the extremities of the covers. Rare. The first Russian translation of the world-famous work was printed in Stockholm by Russian emigrant publishers. John Maynard Keynes (1883-1946) was considered to be one of the most influential economists of the 20th century. His second book, The Economic Consequences of the Peace, was published in late 1919 and became an immediate success on both sides of the Atlantic. The work established Keynes's reputation with the public as a leading economist. In six months, the book had sold 100,000 copies with translations into 12 languages. Extremely rare and richly illustrated manual on how to display books both inside and outside of Soviet bookstores. The book is divided into two relevant sections. The first one started from the outer look: the edition explained how to design window display and signboards to attract passers. Designs of the front and back covers present collaboration of Gustav Klutsis and Sergei Sen'kin, notable Soviet masters of photomontage. Their work proves that the constructivist experiments began to be used extensively in Soviet political art in the late 1920s. Brilliant children's book about the practice of waste paper gathering and involvement of little octobrists in it. Soviet writer Ivan Belyshev (1894-1942) was a former military officer who left the service in 1927. He debuted in the early 1930s, wrote a range of popular stories and contributed to a number of periodicals for children. The edition was illustrated by artist Vladimir Konashevich (1888-1963) who could be rightfully seen as the second author. His earliest children's book was 'ABC in Pictures' (1918); he totally devoted himself to children's books in 1922. In that year, Konashevich had designed several fairy tales by C. Perrault and A. On the front cover artist's self-portrait in a classical satirical manner, on the verso - an image of the notebook with artists's caricature character 'walking out of it'. Among other images are portraits, cartoons, political caricatures, genre compositions, et al. One page includes hand written names of participants of Kukryniksy. Kukryniksy was a creative group of three Soviet artists - Mikhail Kupriyanov (1903-1991), Porfirii Krylov (1902-1990) and Nikolai Sokolov (1903-2000) - mostly known for their caricatures. Their name derived from the combined names of artists. They met at VKhUTEMAS in the early 1920s. The three began drawing caricatures under the joint signature in 1924. First and only edition. One of 10 130 copies produced. This handbook on the common topic of "how to teach yourself how to swim" was published with an interesting photomontage cover design. Above two smiling female swimmers a man is shown in the process of jumping. The figure, certainly captured while jumping from a tower, was turned into a horizontal orientation and placed in the center of the composition. Around him are the two-color constructivist title, complementary rectangles to the left and a rather fragile-looking construction from which to jump into the water is on the right side. The catalogue for the 3rd exhibition (of only 4 held by the Society) that was held in 1929 includes introduction "ORS in 1929" by A. Bakushinsky (short history of the society and its current state), a numbered list of 82 works organized by artists in alphabetical order (first real members and then a few participants not from society), a list of members with their current posts (chairman I.M. Chaikov). Among members were Vatagin, Sandomirskaya, Chaikov, Shadr and others. The Society (ORS) was founded in 1926 by former members of the Moscow Union of Artists and Sculptors. The impetus for the creation was the success of the sculptural department of the OBIS exhibition held in early 1925.
