Stuttgart: Hoffmann'sche Verlagsbuchhandlung, 1844. First Edition. Original Cloth. Very Good. 8Lg. vo (23.5 x 20.0 cm). Collected original fasciles bound in moderen speckled marble paper boards and gilt red buchkram. Collation: 268 pp. + 36 lithograph plates (34 hand colored) with 1315 depictions of European bettles hand colored. There is some foxing to text, plates with marginalia in pencil. This is a rare collection of original fascicles dated 1843. Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Berge was a noted German naturalist, ornithologist and entomologist who had written and illustrated exceptiona works on beetles, butterflies and birds. The present copy of Berge s treatise on beetles is a fine and scarce collection of European beetles with 1315 hand colored specimens on 34 plates. (Hagen p. 43; Nissen ZBI 321)

Germany: Author, [Late 18th early 19th century]. First Edition. Vellum. Very good. 8vo(17.4 x 10.2cm) Original vellum; soiled and chipped. Collation: [127], [7-calendar] leaves. There a 66 original pen and ink drawings of full plants with root system (often uncolored) There are 3 uncolored and 63 hand colored drawings of plants in the text. These plants are generally well done and appear to be copies from Leonhard Fuchs or others with modification to fit small space in upper left corner of page. Text begins at top of page adjacent to drawing. This manuscript is a collection of writings and prescriptions by Schein for treatment of different ailments. Schein was most likely a pharmacist who kept hand written notes over a period of a number of years and then had the leaves bound together in this volume. More recent owner was Paracelsus Apotheke in Berlin. Ink signature of Hans Hennecke present beneath stamp. This stamp is on paste down for each cover.

Collation: xiii, [1] [13], 222 pp., + 6 folding engraved plates and several tables. Spine has raised bands and gilt title on red leather label. Hinges tender. Covers with gilt line tooling along the margins. Foxing, browning and some specking on plates, esp. last one. Ink inscriptions and signatures of previous owners on front free end paper with some of the writing has been crossed off. (Oklahoma Hist. Sci. Cat. P. 560, 1st & 2nd ed.)
