Richard Alpert (later known as Ram Dass), Arthur Kleps, and Maynard Ferguson lived at the estate, while the numerous visitors and guests included R. D. Estate owner William Mellon Hitchcock, heir to the Mellon fortune, subsidized Leary's research and later financed the nation's largest LSD dealers, The Brotherhood of Eternal Love. Includes: 1. Eleven photographs, mostly b&w, a few in color. Various sizes, the larger ones being approx. 8" x 10". The photos are… Read More

Description:
Milano: G. Gnocchi. Printed by Fratelli Salmin of Padoua, 1878. First edition thus. Near Fine. First edition of what has become known as "Dantino," one of the smallest books printed in movable type and one of the most renowned miniature books. Near Fine. Finely bound in vellum elaborately stamped in gilt, top edge gilt, looped string straps with one clasp post lacking. The printing process was arduous, in part because of the minuscule 2-point Didot type (so-called "flies' eye" type), "thought to be the smallest ever employed," and "said to have injured the eyesight of both the compositor and the corrector." Because only 30 pages could be printed in a month, the work took many years to complete. The project was begun in 1850 by Giacomo Gnocchi, but the work was abandoned. Resumed in 1873 by his son Giovanni, the edition was completed at the Printing Works 'Alla Minerva' in Padua overseen by Gaetano Gianuzzi and completed on 9 June 1878. After "1,000 copies were printed and the type was… Read More

Paris: Printed for the Author, and Sold by Edward W. Titus, 1928. First Edition. Very Good. First edition, copy number 850 of 1050 copies, privately printed for the author. Very Good with light toning, foxing and light general wear. Faint crease to the front cover, short split to the top of the front spine joint and a small former owner bookplate to inside the front cover. A very lovely copy of this fragile production. Barnes' novel based on a Parisian lesbian social circle centering around Natalie Clifford Barney's salon--and debatably either a loving satire or a bitter attack on such. Written in archaic Rabelaisian style, illustrated by the author with styled Elizabethan woodcuts.
