Matching half morocco with marbled boards and matching marbled endpapers. Top edge gilt. Spine shows five raised bands, Title and author stamped in gilt along with date stamped in gilt on tail of spine.
Condition: VG with with wear at corners and fore-edge. Hinges are solid, though show some wear, Paper strip on inside of front cover, both volumes, as though an ex-libris had been carefully trimmed from the book.. Top and bottom of spine show some minor shelf-wear as well as some minor spotting to spine of volume two. Overall an attractive copy.

Condition: VG. Shows wear, as expected of a book of this nature but minor as compared with most copies. Front lower corner is bumped and shows wear-through. Hinges show wear but continue to perform well. Bookplate on front pastedown, with signs of a previous bookplate removal. The gathering beginning on page 239 through 268 is beginning to separate from the binding, but is still attached.
Provenance: Bookplate from the library of Thomas Townsend Taber, a prolific author and historian of railroads.
